Streaming Porn Service Coming to Next Xbox

MrStab:
Hang on so the majority of people on this site jump to the defense of devs and publishers when it comes to pirating pretty much any medium, but when it comes to porn it's okay because it's porn? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't streaming porn free from whatever site you're using still illegal because it's a form of public distribution? Doesn't that make it a form of piracy even if you aren't just downloading it?

No. While I'm sure there is plenty of pirated porn out there, the makers usually post free samples on their own websites, either for DL or streaming. Not that I know about that sort of thing. >_> <_<

This can't be good for the xbox brand name and reputation.

Pretty stupid thing to do IMO.

Looks like MS is whore out the xbox in every way they can - no pun intended.

JEBWrench:
People... people pay for adult videos?

I'm confused again. Halp.

yes. they actually pay for it, download it and uplaod it for all of us to see, thne get sued over it and get it taken down and the cycle repeats.

WouldYouKindly:
Seriously, I will never understand why people pay for porn anymore... unless your fetish is so ridiculously uncommon that you can't find a site that has a decent selection of it for free.

actually there is extremely limited amount of videos fo any decent quality out there for free. whnever i browse such videos i end up marking in my mind 9/10 as "seen already".
Also the fetish does not have to be weird. I have a Jeans fetish, i think a woman in jeans is more sexy than a naked woman. you know how many sites provide the content of anything in this direction? 2. on the whole internet. and those have like 8 women each. that wont last long now will it.

Oh I didn't mean that stuff I'm pretty sure that would come under advertising I mean sites like redtube etc (I'm not naming anymore because I don't know if I'm allowed on here)

UnnDunn:
This just makes me wonder why exactly console manufacturers do not license adult content. The median age of gamers has gone up, and cable companies offer adult content behind a paywall, so why not adult videogames?

I'm certainly surprised we haven't seen them start to crop up given the rising dominance of digital distribution, it's becoming less and less of an issue that stores wouldn't stock them.

It's easy to see why an adult game would be desirable on a console, but they would probably be more at home on the PC. One escapist already mentioned the one hand issue, which is easy to avoid if you can get good mouse control, holding and using a controller with one hand seems like it would be a pain.

On the other hand that could be solved by peripherals, looking at the Japanese H-game market (which appears to be fairly robust) quite a few incorporate special "controllers" that look like they would give...well...some degree of immersion.

Actually, final thought makes this whole thing easy: instead of questioning why there isn't a new push for adult content videogames, why not question why the Japanese games, (that already have companies and franchises dedicated to making adult content) aren't getting a push to be translated and shipped to new markets?

It's only piracy is the public distribution is done illegally. It's hard to say that a company distributing its own videos for free is committing piracy or people are committing piracy for downloading it.

I mean, maybe you've just never looked for porn but there are tons of free videos out there to be obtained legally.

Maybe some of the "lol people pay for porn" people are pirates. Hell, maybe most of them are. But it's not a given.

In that light....

Andy Chalk:
To be serious about it for a moment (seriously, guys) the porn industry is facing piracy challenges of the sort that would give videogame executives nightmares. The content is widely available, even to people who don't know anything more than how to launch their browser, there's virtually nothing to differentiate it ("Scale Bustin' Babes 41" is a real title, by the way, and I doubt very much that anyone could convince me it's meaningfully different from Big Naturals 18) and almost none of us "need" a particular title or series anyway, and perhaps worst of all, there's no real interest in fighting to protect porn copyrights, because hey, it's porn. You may get indignant because people are ripping off the latest creative endeavour by Irrational or Bungie or Mojang, but how many people are really going to stand up and express outrage because the makers of "10 Man Cum Slam" aren't getting paid? Very few, I suspect.

(And yes, that is a real title too.)

I'm not pro-porn piracy any more than I am pro-anything else, but porn companies do give out a lot of free "samples" that one can find legitimately through their websites and/or through partnered sites.

However, I've always thought pursuing piracy to be a bit of a waste (again, I'm not saying piracy is right or cool or justified because I don't think it is, just that trying to enforce it is like trying to drain the ocean with a straw), so I'm not going to be any more incensed here.

Still, porn companies themselves make it possible to go the rest of your life without paying for a single porn title. I'm not saying you SHOULD, but you certainly CAN. Not to mention the rise of the self-distributed porn that's one of the big enemies of the porn industry. Honestly, if you could make as good a game in your bedroom as EA could publish, games would be in as much trouble as pornography.

Father Time:
Anyone else thinks it's hypocritical that they'll allow this but won't allow Ao games?

"Allow" is kind of the wrong word. This isn't truly an app for the PS3, and it almost certainly won't be an app for the 360. All it is on the PS3 is a website that's optimised for the PS3 that you access from its browser. Hell, this isn't much different from some porn website advertising that, with the 360's new browser, you could stream porn from them. I think the Escapist had an article on this, too. The only difference is one's optimised. But what, then, would these companies do to not "allow" these sites?

j-e-f-f-e-r-s:
Wii U already lets you watch Spankwire and Xvideo through the browser for free :P Though to be fair, I think any console with a browser does.

This sounds like an experienced opinion. And if that's the case, how can you watch porn on a Nintendo console? I would imagine Mario would be watching you all the time, and it'd be hard to get...things going.

I don't own next gen consoles but don't they tell those on your friends list what you are playing? What does this porn streaming service show up as?

This sounds wonderfully awkward.

Britishfan:
Wait, there's going to be porn showing on a device that will have a permanently on 3D camera? hmmmmmm.......

Can't you just, you know, block the camera? Put something in front of it?

But, hey, if MS really wanna watch people masterbate...

In all seriousness though, I'm surprised this didn't happen with this generation of consoles.

The Sega Saturn was partially so much more popular in Japan because Sega allowed porn games on the console, whereas Sony and Nintendo' consoles wouldn't allow it.

Well yeah, but that /does/ sound pretty paranoid, I'm pretty sure the government aren't spying on me through my webcam. Scrap that, I'm sure they're not. I mean seriously, the amount of man power they'd need to monitor is absolutely ludicrous, when at the end of the day the most noteworthy thing they're going to see is me having a shifty.

It does sound pretty paranoid, doesn't it? Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of our "patriot" loonies who thinks the government is automatically bad, or is "out to get us," take our guns away, steal our freedoms, or whatever. But, I also would not have thought the US government would have justified warrantless wiretaps against its own citizens, been given powers to access library book checkout records, advocating torture of prisoners, disregard for the Geneva conventions...

My point is that just blindly figuring the government has *your* interest at heart and would restrain itself, or be restrained, from doing harm to its own citizens, is something that I learned long ago not to take for granted. I'm also very deeply influenced by Enlightenment philosophy, so my ideas about government, and the vigilance and skepticism that I feel ordinary citizens should have against their government, whatever form it takes, come from that corpus of knowledge.

Oh quite quite, again while I'm not one of those "everything the government does is bad!" nutters, I can agree that they're likely to at least attempt doing a lot of underhanded stuff if they think they might be able to get away with it. On the one hand, I'm a big on freedom of expression and thought, but on the other, people can't be trusted. I have no illusions that the government have our best interests at heart. So it's a bit of a personal impasse, totally checked power is just as bad as unchecked power when it comes to the government, sometimes you need to bend the rules for something that may end up benefiting the greater good, but other times they're doing it totally for their own benefit.

Sometimes checking that dudes library checkouts may help catch a murderer, while other times it may just be some poor University student doing a paper who gets his door busted down by the FBI. And because it's so black and white I'm not entirely sure how to feel about it. But then I don't really lean either way when it comes to the political scale. I prefer to cherry pick certain elements that I feel benefit society. The people should undoubtedly have the power to keep the government in check, but the general masses may not always understand what they're rallying against.

In times of peril, sometimes bad things need to be done in order to help preserve peace, if a convicted terrorist won't give up information that may save lives, then sometimes you may need to torture them to get that information and drastic methods need to be taken. It's unfortunetly the world we live in and sometimes those measures need to be taken for the greater good. It's horrific, but for certain cases, that person has given up their human rights when they start bombing innocent civilians.

Obviously you don't know me, so try not to take that as some "those dang terrorists!" ideology, it's not, it's just awkward to put it into words, especially in a forum format, due to the way my political ideology is so conflicting in certain areas. To put it succinctly sometimes the Government has to ignore what the people think in order to get the job done and others the people should most definitely have the power rally against them, but don't blindy make opinions on things without considering all approaches.

But that NSA information centre is certainly worrying, this is Metal Gear Solid Patriot style stuff we're talking here. And no-one should have /that/ kind of power.

This is probably the most immature thing I have ever heard.....I almost feel ashamed to even own an Xbox now...

Next XBOX leading the new generation confirmed. Who needs PlayStation 4, who cares about always on DRM? Clearly this is what gaming needs. This is the future, folks.

47_Ronin:
Wait... people actually pay for porn?

Well, you do, unless you're an evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil pirate!

You sidin' with dem pirates?

Well obviously this move for the XBOX makes sense, they clearly have a history with porn. With Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball for the original XBOX, and everyone's favourite XBOX 360 shooting game.

XBOX is for shooters.

Watch a tentacle related Hentai video.

Im sorry i just couldnt resist.

About god damn time if you ask me!

will it still be too "mature" for our avatars to hold guns? :P

Legion:
Does anybody else find it strange that a bigger deal hasn't been made over this?

Not because it should be an issue, but considering PG13 sex scenes in games cause such outrage half of the time, I'd expect the "angry ignorant parent" collective to be causing a fuss and claiming that console developers are trying to sell porn to kids.

Because the very same "angry ignorant parent" will want to use that service. That or the fact is pixelized sex is seen as lower class than actual sex. Soo... that would be pixelism? Pixelphobia?

I don't understand those who would use the services of a system that is clearly tagged to a company's server, with no way to hide the program and to top it off, I'm sure most consoles are placed in teh livin' room. Clearly I need some enlightenment.

burningdragoon:
Will there be leaderboards?

Oh you =D

captcha: smart casual. oh yes indeed.

Yet another thing that the PC Master Race has had for years - and we get it for free, too.

I think what shocks me more than the fact that the console is gonna stream it is that fact that people still pay for porn!
It's a weird universe I live in. Although I guess the internet calling it the X-bone can hold more relevance and jokes now. XD

Guess the owners of the XBox One will need something to do with the hardware since it's not reverse compatible and there will only a handful of launch titles available.

Actually, the majority of porn available on the internet isn't illegally viewed. Sites like 4tube, Tube 8, TubeKitty (a top site of sorts), Red Tube (that's a lot of tubes), PornHub, Spankwire, Xvideos, etc. are either affiliates of most porn "studios" or owned directly by them. While some of the content is uploaded by users the majority is done so by the creators or other affiliates. While all of this is going on, the creators of the content still get paid by the very thing that makes any company money on the internet. Advertisements.

Yeah, I know a thing or two about this. I've worked for them.

This could use achievements to mark the different levels of sadness you have achieved or HAL(the new kinect) can detect if someone enters the room mid session which results in a "caught in the act" achievement.

Looks like the Xbox might just be "backwards compatible" after all... OOOOHH YEAAH!

Yes. It certainly blows the mind, does it not?

Zachary Amaranth:

So it turns off the "pay per minute" streaming when you're done?

Timne to get it under a minute then!

Boris Goodenough:

Timne to get it under a minute then!

that's what she sa....Wait, she probably isn't saying that.

...False alarm, folks, move along.

It certainly blows SOMETHING.

You know, the X Bone is going to have achievements for more than just games and can be acquired multiple ways or across multiple services....I see a LOT of potential here.

Well hello, my FIRST escapist post... and by chance today I just joined or added the streaming service of sugardvd to my ps3. I just wanted to answer some posted statements here.... For me, I don't mingle or hit the bars my active sex life is non-existent I would rather beat off to a porno than spend money on a date, on a chance that at a bar scene I'd pick up a chick... I don't want an STD, I don't want a relationship.

WHY would someone pay to stream porn? As someone who uses porn to curb sexual desires and urges, I am always lookin for something new or different... even stuff I am NOT attracted to I will try to check out for shits and giggles... just to "see"
I had the "free" ten day trial for a total of 2 minutes lol, I used it installed it and deleted it after my initial set up cancelled it because I felt too greasy, but then the next day I thought well its a service "hopefully" legit, let's buy a month.... now here is why someone would pay for a streaming service.....

I use porn for the sexual urges, and while I used sites like pornhub, xvideos, girlfriendvideos, or xhamster, I always worried about viruses, or someone hacking their site to infect my pc... I have gotten the OBAMA/moneypak virus from these sites... so while they may be safe... at any time these "safe" sites.... may be infected.... hopefully a streaming site that I pay for will be safer.....

Secondly, and more importantly, I always worry about viewing submitted materials, in any movie we want to push the limit, whether its fantasy, graphics, story gore, porn is not ANY different, at times I want to push the envelope... in a fantasy... for example off the top of my head... I consider myself completely straight... and would never force a woman... but for example if Batman were to be forced to suck off lex luther... in a porn vid.. its the fantasy and I might actually watch just b.c. of the characters, the plot ect... but do I want to be either? No... do I want a dick in my mouth no? Or for me paranoid... I love college girls... they are hot, would I REALLY fuck a 20 year old no, in all actuality that age range of people are fucking annoying... and I don't know if I am alone the thought DOES cross my mind when someone in the news is busted for illegal porn or attempted acquisition of it... I think what if the video I watched of some fantasy college teen with a professor, (which by the way may or may not be in English) were to involve a minor? Would I just by viewing it be participating in an illegal activity? With these internet sites... you never know what is scanned to be legal and hopefully by PAYING for a site they will make sure their products are on the up and up... that you are good.. watching legit shit and can enjoy the fantasy... if you want to watch a rape, a murder, or a gay gangbang you shouldn't have to wonder... damn is this real and did I witness a crime??

I think the streaming, the legitimizing of the porn industry is good... for everyone... that is why someone would pay for it...

I would suggest that sugardvd add the ability to easily fast forward the movie... lol... or atleast insert scene selection at the dialogue of a sex scene and not just when the sex starts....

Oh man, those quick time events are finally going to have a lot of meaning when they pop up. Also, for my contribution to the achievements:

"Endurance Run": Watch a full porn movie.
