What's your habit in games?

I chew my tongue

I also don't like working in a team :/

When playing a gunny shooty game, I tend to scoot forward. I can only lie back in my chair if I really don't care about what's going on and am just screwing around. (level 20 charge nova vanguard on bronze anyone? :P )

I also tend to say "Die!" to powerful enemies/high number of enemies. If I have any sort of weapon or ability with nockback, I tend to say "and SIT DOWN!". If my character does something I didn't want him to do I either say "stop it! do what I tell you!" or "that's not what I said...". If it's a pokemon like pikachu in Super Smash Brothers, I tend to comment that I don't have enough badges.

I'm a compulsive reloader.

Hello compulsive reloader.

I'm a compulsive quick-saver.

Hello fellow compulsives, I reload, quick save, and hoard like you wouldn't believe!

mostly it is:

try to save everyone.
thats why i hate scripted deaths so much. i wish i had the chance to rescue them even if its almost near impossible.

and shortly after that comes:
try to help almost everyone.

thats why i finish almost all sidequests before i go on with the main quest.

other than that its the common 'hoard everything' because i might need it later. which i never really do.

- any time I do something epic I say 'and that's why you don't f*** with nuba'

- if there could be loot I open it, even if I am max level and I am in a level 1 area, this is also true when searching for stuff in FPS games

- I will close to never use the most popular anything in any game as it stops feeling like I am playing the game my way then.

- I will try and hold on a vehicle for as long as possible, in one halo 3 campaign I kept my chopper through the entire campaign level when 3/4 of it were set in narrow corridors, indoor areas and places with very sharp corners.

- I will not stop driving in a vehicle until I reach my destination, I will stop 90% of the time when my vehicle gets destroyed. This and the last point means that I am always the driver when playing with my friends, and I have a long record of insane things I have pulled off.

I talk A LOT in games. I constantly talk to myself (and the enemy I'm fighting) while I play.

In Minecraft for example my sister has told me a number of times that she's heard me yell about exploding willy monsters very loudly. In Morrowind I'm almost constantly laughing at the idea of the mighty Nerevarine taking a nap before he fights some mighty foe. Or taking a nap before he levitates to fight a cliff racer. Or taking a nap before he kills yet another god. The reincarnation of lord Nerevar takes a lot of naps.

HEAR! HEAR!

OT: I reload after every kill.

I tend to save twice at each save point....just in case(?)

And I always intentionally go the wrong way....ALWAYS. If I see an arrow or a path telling me where to go I'll deliberately go the wrong way under the assumption that there'll be something there.

....It's kind of a let down when there's actually nothing there and I have to go all the way back.

Ive developed a terrible terrible habit or reloading after each kill, I tend to use smg's and classes that expand on your speed, so quick reloading, aiming changing weapons sprinting and so on. And ive gotten to a point where I get a kill and reload to avoid running out of ammo in a small clip, which often lets the enemies right on the previous mans heels take me out as he comes into view of me snapping another clip in the gun.

And if I use a class with a LMG im just fucked...

-Shooter games: I like to wait around corners with a shotgun and use my headphones to listen for footsteps. I only reload when I've killed someone.

-MMOs: I enjoy renting myself out as a freelancer healer. For some reason, I'm at my most helpful when I am playing MMOs. I'm usually the first to respond to "Looking for heals"

-League of Legends: I normally play heroes who can roam around the map and pop up wherever I want to.

-Party based games (Bioware and Bioware-eque RPGs): I roleplay as a complete bastard whose time is constantly being wasted by these useless NPCs. Loyal to my party (unless they're being annoying bastards... Morrigan) but dismissive of anyone outside of that. I devote most of my skills towards being an upfront fighter, able to kill most enemies quickly with a do-or-die onslaught.

-In all games: In a tight situation, I will always semi-panic and shout "Fuck off!"

Zhukov:
Side quests get finished first.

It's a law.

I'm a law abiding citizen. In fact, I try to finish the side quests before even taking up the main one, so I'll try to avoid the quest giver (if possible) at, well, reasonable costs. I would go as far as not being in the same are as them if I could easily pull it off, for example if they reside in a room or a building and there is nothing else to do in that area (no shops/secondary quests/other stuff).

I'm also a minimalist. I try to use as little resources as possible. This means that I maximise what I can get out of my current abilities/items/etc. It's borderline power gaming but I'm doing it for the tactical challenge. For example, the first time I played NWN I went through the entire game without any companions - using only my character's resources to tackle everything I encountered.

DrgoFx:
For my specifically, I narrate as I said on what's going on, and my "catch phrase" I would say is "Sit the fuck back down." Which normally comes out after I snipe someone or easily defeat someone. IE: in Halo I'll get caught off guard and in an instant, I kill my challenger. In response I'll say "Bitch, sit the fuck back down."

I narrate too, it's either my thought process ("So if I go here and use that...no better do something else.") or just what's going on if I don't have a plan set up ("So, thanks for ambushing me, here is some sword in your face"). Maybe it's not "narrating" but "commenting" now that I think of it.

I also have some "catch phrases" but some are specific to games or genres. Or just one sort of thing. For example, I almost have to go "horsey, horsey horsey, horsey" if I even think the word "horse". It gets somewhat annoying when I'm narrating or commenting a when thinking of a tactic and there are horse riders or something remotely similar (unicorns, centaurs included...depending how horselike they are) involved. "So, if I attack with the archers there then move my horses (horsey, horsey, horsey, horsey) here maybe, no wait, I better leave the horses (horsey, horsey, horsey, horsey) next to the archers to guard them" and so on. I really don't know why or when I started in the first place.

And I'm a bit of a serial killer in games. Especially RPGs and other sandbox-y ones but if I find a helpless NPC away from everybody else and I think I can get away with it, I would most sneak up to them and kill them. actually the same goes for enemies. A secluded enemy which is out of sight from the others, out of shouting range even will always get a sneak kill unless I really can't do it (no sneaking in the game). It wouldn't matter if it doesn't pose no threat to me even if it sees me. Silent discrete murder is the norm. I'm pretty sure I haven't picked that from Hitman although it really helped there.

I like to see whether I can break a game using its own mechanics and exploit its exploits XD.

Oh Morrowind...you are so broken.

I seem to occasionly end up narrating the game as if I'm doing a Let's Play, despite the fact that I've never even made one before. I also tend to accidently refer to the secondary Xbox shoulder triggers as R2/L2 instead of RT/LT. Doesn't help that two begins with the letter T.

Aircross:
I'm a perfectionist and, I'm borderline obsessive compulsive.

I just have to have 100% completion in all my games.

Hear hear.

But to add something new, I have a weird habit of "leaning into" my melee kills while playing FPS, I've been doing it since Halo 3 and my brother never fails to comment on it.

I refuse to follow the main quest in RPGs until I'm happy with the amount of side quests I've done/done them all.

Zhukov:
Side quests get finished first.

It's a law.

and this law is to be obeyed.

i do this to, usually for the reason of getting ready for the next 'big thing' coming.

but a few more, general ones

MMOs: i almost always roll a 'melee DPS' character, with a high or higher DEF rating when possible, rarely am i a 'tank' though, even rarer am i 'ranged DPS'

i have a pretty strict 'no boys allowed' rule when custom characters are available to, not just MMOs here, but ALL games where i can fiddle with my avatar's appearance, unless there's some benefit being a dood has over being female, then yeah, 'I'll have boobs'

Reload ALL the guns, even when it's 199/200 in an LMG, nope epic reload time activate! BF3 lets you run while reloading... Thank god!

Must explore every inch of a dungeon, I don't even find it fun, it just pains me to know that I may have missed something. Except I could fly through the dungeons in Persona 4 for some reason, probably because the floors are randomised and the loot is usually just healing/SP regaining stuff that you could just buy from the shop anyway.

If I can be a sniper, I will be. That's probably why I loathed the MW3 multiplayer, it all comes down to the fact that all the maps are far too small for anything that isn't an SMG or AR. There just isn't a place for a sniper on any maps. And the usual balancing problems were a factor too i guess. Plus the maps being aggressively small leads to the usual spawn trouble.

And in fighting games, I will pick the weirdest character in the game and run with him. Characters like Ryu make me disgustingly bored. And sometimes I just know i'm gonna pull an amazing comeback... Like when I went one woman army (no X-Factor!) against an entire team and won with X-23 in UMVC3. Ok Phoenix Wright helped but it was mostly X's rushdown that won the game. I swear I was pulling off several resets without even realising it...

Sentinel drones ain't got nothin' on X-23 bitches

I reload compulsively, depending on the game, it can get me killed often.

I hate camping, and even in games like Flashpoint and Red Orchestra, I'll tend to be charging into the battle.

1. I save consumables, especially powerful ones, for a battle that never comes.

2. I must 100% clear all maps.

3. If I fail to play a story driven game for more than 2 weeks straight, I restart it.

4. Get paranoid and turtle in RTSs.

5. Tendency to hyper-focus on battles at the objective's expense. Needed to constantly and consciously break away from battles in WoW Battlegrounds to remind myself that capturing the flag is more important than killing an opponent.

When I narrate, here's an example of my fight with a Reaper Brute in Mass Effect 3:

"Oh god, here it comes...SNIPER BULLET TO THE FACE. Ok, sticky grenade...flame him...BULLET TO THE FACE. Oh god he's close, come on reload...Ok dodge out, dodge out, sticky grena- OH FUCK HE'S CHARGING. Ok, almost dead. Now ready...One. Two. Three...And...SHEPARD PUNCH! SIT THE FUCK DOWN BRUTE."

I guess I could say my "catch phrase" comes from accomplishments in my mind, either I feel accomplished to kill them off that quickly, or accomplished to beat someone I didn't think I could.

Oh god, I do this so often. My favorite thing to do in Prototype was to find the nearest date-rape looking male, disguise myself as him, then grab the nearest female and bolt down the street or up a building screaming "RAAAAAAAPE."

I think I have issues.

I'm not sure if this counts, but I rarely ever finish games; and I NEVER re-play through them, not matter how good.

Any RPG or MMORPG I always play a caster (the only exception is LOTRO where I played a lore-keeper but found the captain to be more fun for me)

I also save up any consumable items and bank them in case I need them later on and then they never get used as I level up past their use and end up selling them.

In any game with a gun I always reload even if all I did was fire one shot, I always make sure I am behind some form of cover and reload.

I tend to save a lot just to make sure I do not have to retrace my steps back up to the point of where I died.

I will almost always play a male character (not because I am sexist or anything but to me it feels odd to play a female when I am a male, unless a female opens different conversation options)

In MMORPGs or any other game that permits me to play a different race, I will normally not play a human class (once again I am forced to play a human in LOTRO because the captain class is for the human race only)

Frozen Fox:
Despite knowing what they are i always refer to Play station buttons as A,B,X,Y not Square, Circle, X, Triangle

I do something similar to this, but I mix them up. For me, circle/B is always B, triangle/Y is always triangle, square/X is always square, and X/A is always X.

Confuses the heck out of people when I try to communicate which buttons to press, especially when it comes to X.

I'm a compulsive reloader.

Hello compulsive reloader.

I'm a compulsive quick-saver.

I do both. Hell, I think I am just compulsive in general.

I'm a health kit hoarder. I simply must have them ALL, because I'll need them... at some point. If I come across a health kit and I am at my maximum capacity I will purposely damage my health bar, use a health kit up just so I can collect the one that I found.

Someone help me... I just can't stop.

I'm a compulsive reloader and I love using pistols in shooters. I have no idea why, but if there's a pistol, I MUST USE IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

Shoot somebody.
R.
Shoot wall.
R.
Shoot explosive barrel.
R.
Press R.
R.
No ammo left?
F5.

Usually when I'm in trouble I'll just mutter "fuck" a lot. When I'm running away, it's "bitch".

Ah, swear words. How I love thee so.

Compulsive loader, too.

I only ever use one save slot. EVER!!! It may seem like a stupid thing, save corruption, etc. But I only ever use 1 save!!

This is to combat my Brother, who always takes up all the save slots. Ever!!

Kahunaburger:
I'm a compulsive reloader.

This. I have to curb the compulsion whenever I start playing CS:S again, or else I spend forever getting shot in the head as I reload in ridiculous places.

I cannot bring myself to play an evil character. I can be a dick to people all right, but I cannot bring myself to hurt non-evil people, or even not help them. What a pussy.

Also a compulsive Quicksaver, something I picked up from RPGs and STALKER games.

To always reload even if the mag is not empty.

I barely ever use items in combat, and if I do I regard that as a failure of some kind. However, I'm also a serious hoarder, which means I often end games with enormous numbers of health potions, grenades, scrolls and whatnot.

Also, if I'm playing an RPG, I'm very careful about inventory management. If the game works on a weight system (like Skyrim), then I'll work out every items weight:value ratio and chuck out as little as possible to get moving again. Time consuming sure, but worth it.

Compulsive reloader here, I noticed it when I was playing Resident Evil 4 and my roommate asked why I was reloading almost every time I shot something.

When it comes to RPG's I compulsively grind until I get to a certain level for certain bosses.

Thats about it I think.

-Seraph-:
- I too suffer from compulsive reload syndrome

- In shooters I mostly avoid long ranged combat unless forced into it. Much prefer mid-close ranged. Snipers are for the cowardly and weak I say!!

- I am very frugal about items in RPGs. I tend to not use them unless absolutely necessary, and even then I can be hesitant.

- In RPGs, I more often than not ALWAYS get to a specific level before progressing (ie: I must be lvl25 before moving on to next point ect...)

- I normally play the more versatile classes in RPGs, being equipped with a little of everything. If one isn't available, I make my own.

- I must explore every nook and cranny of every dungeon/location, no exception.

- Fighting games, I have am one of those people who gets that second wind and proceeds to make some crazy stupid combacks when pushed. Seems after half my health is gone, I can turn into a wrecking machine and turn the tables in a matter of seconds.

- The above second wind statement goes hand in hand with my tendency to sort of turtle for the beginning more or less. Get a feel for my opponent before going nuts...probably explains why my primary characters tend to be of the turtle category (Baiken, Hakumen, ExDeath, ect...)

Yes. This pretty much describes all of my habits bar the "Screw story im going to dick around" one.

Most definitely.

In games where I am alone I will almost always go mele combat whereas if I have another person or a party I'll play ranged magic. Side quests will almost always be done before the main plot.

In shooters with create classes, I tend to make classes that are similar to real life. For example, in call of duty W@W, I'd never use any attachments on my SMGs because it wasn't historically accurate or more currently in MW3, I'd build classes that fit current standards today, Like using an M4A1 with an ACOG and a handgun or a SMAW as a secondary etc etc.

In fantasy RPGs, I also build my characters relative to historical armies and so on, it's a habit I can't break!
