RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR

TF2, 95% ubercharge, A WILD CROCKET APPEARS!

Fuck random crits.

Whoever thought that was a good idea has no concept of game balance.

But it's nice when you're the one that shoots the random crocket.

-Sagat. I guess not exactly 'unfair', but a royal pain in the ass and symbolizes everything I hate about Capcom 2d fighters. (TIGER SHOT. TIGER SHOT. TIGER SHOT. TIGER SHOT. TIGERTIGERTIGERTIGERTIGERTIGERTIGERTIGERTIGETIGETIGETIGETIGTIGTIGTIGTIGTITITITITI-)

haha i will admit that i got a random crit rocket on the bridge on 2fort that got 3 kills..i had a bit of a grin >:) although i do understand that in a moment where you are 1 v 1'ing someone and they get a random crit it can be very off putting in the game.

also, highly agreed about sagat, if anything he was harder to me than bison by far, i'd spend 4-5x more retries on him than bison i'd probably wager. fuckin tiger shot + tiger uppercut spam constantly...if only i was like the computer and could do one keystroke to activate each power ability rather than 3-4 well timed button combo's.

Enigma and Heart of the Oak items in Diablo 2.

"Oh, Barbarian and Sorceress have very strong skills unique to them, one increasing health, mana and other stats, the other has instant teleport? LET'S GIVE ALL CHARACTERS A CHANCE TO GET THAT!"

And suddenly PvP became "who has Enigma" instead of "who has better gear and plays better". Best gear won't help you against a hammerdin teleporting onto you from off-screen and drops a barrage.

Bigby's spells in Neverwinter Nights - ridiculous damage, bypass resistance from what I remember, and have huge saving throws for damage. Also Implosion, it ignored Death Resistance, Harm was just stupid in original game (so was Heal, both disregarding the rules about 15x level heal/damage) and I'm not sure they changed it, but there are luckily mods for it.

Stop Time is obviously overpowered but it's the same in the original version.

Smiting Prayers in Guild Wars until it was nerfed to ground in PvP. Good reasons, poor execution.

There is not enough rage for wesker , until his health is nerfed . Let him keep his damage and his speed , and his godly assist , and his self OTG and his teleports . Just for the love of god , give him the same amount of life as strider or akuma.

Or better yet, nerf his health down to Phoenix levels and watch as everyone drops him near instantly nyahahahaha! Usually i'd hate to see the bullshit nerf Phoenix got happen anyone else, but for Wesker... I'd have to make an exception XD

Oh just off topic for a sec, i'm still waiting for a Phoenix Wright to make an appearance in a tourney at some point... Seriously it's like nobody plays him except me. Apparently a character actually having quite a high learning curve equates to being low tier. Who knew?

It's not the learning curb . Phoenix wright is only good after he gets all his evidence . And then you still need to get hit by him . Hes actually very easy to avoid . Since his movement sucks . Too much preperation needed, but if you manage to actually do it hes nigh unstopable . Also is his level 3 unblockable? Or it hits anywhere as long as you are touching a button? I guess you COULD make a team revolving around him , but it's pretty unreliable.

I'd love to see a phoenix wright , hsien-ko, strider team though . Plus another downside to phoenix write is ... Hes nOt wesker.

Getting evidence is easy for me unless i'm fighting someone like Deadpool, fuck Deadpool! Though them playing Keepaway against PW is going to come back and bite them in the long run. Since with the Maya assist I get enough time to get my evidence, switch to X-23 and either go for a TAC into Objection! or DHC from Rage Trigger into PW's Maya hyper for the easiest Objection! you have ever seen XD

Basically my team is PW and X-23 with Vergil hanging around in the back just in case something horrible happens...

His lvl 3 is blockable but they press a button, any button and you unleash zero frame, omnidirectional ownage upon their faces. Fun fact: lvl 3 X-Factor Ace Attorney will kill 99% of the cast from full health. It makes the last character on the enemy team a joke to deal with.

Basically once you learn your way around his crap mobility (by spamming the Maya assists, naturally) it becomes so easy to get the evidence, switch mode and then let X get one combo on them to land the Objection!

Well, it's not that he has a high learning curve, it's that for him to truly be useful, you need to not attack for a while. In a game based around killing your opponent in a single hit (*COUGH* FilipinoChamp *COUGH*) not attacking sounds like a bad idea to me.

It's why I sold the game. Got bored of either instantly winning or losing based on who happened to win a game of footsie.

Protip: you can attack through Maya's shield. That is all you need to know to get about 1 to infinite free combos on the guy

"Oh he's sitting behind his shield tiem to go and grind against it!" logic is so common.

People not knowing the little nuances behind PW gets them killed half the time. Also Order in the Court is a free get out of random hyper free card. The self induced hitstate makes you go though any attack, you can be OTG'd if they're playing Wesker though...

Basically once they're sick of your Keepaway beams and throw a Shinku or something at you it's just "nope, not giving you the damage! Back to the good old Keepaway!"

Dark souls isn't nearly as bad imho,
You just need to be able to surprise invaders.
Noone ever seems to expect a mage to weild a energybeam spewing greadsword in one hand.
Mwhahaha!

Competitive games with reliance on random chance and leveling.
Random chance just fucks up every tactic you can come up with, if action X does not result in Y then there is no reason to play skillfully.
And leveling up creates an exponential advantage for old players, not only have they honed their skill through hours of gameplay but they also get a power boost, what in the fuck are you devs thinking?!

exp. 99:

Freemium content. You know, games where you have to pay real money to unlock certain items/weapons. Now, if the devs are smart, they won't be unbalancing. But even if they ARE smart, often times they'll be such *anyways*, because nobody can catch everything. So what often happens is some of the premium content winds up being a ludicrous advantage, making it pay to win.

It sucks for those of us who either can't pay, or are insulted by the thought of the highest bidder being the winner.

That the US and Russian air forces make you pay for your missiles and flares in Battlefield 3's aircraft, meaning that you will be blown out of the sky 9/10 within 10 seconds of taking off because for some retarded reason you're only allowed to take to the air with chainguns that can't hit a bloody thing!

That the Donner map in Day of Defeat Source is horribly broken for the German side, giving the Americans faster and easier access to all the objectives, better sniping spots and defensive positions and giving the Germans no chance whatsoever against a organised team with MGs!

That the MGO player base are genetically engineered super-humans who can line up and execute successful headshots faster then humans can blink!

WoW PvP - if your leveling in wow on a pvp server, good luck.

Highly subjective, that. Don't want to come off flame-y, but I think that after levelling a bunch of alts to 80 I can state I personally enjoyed the constant sense of danger whenever I met a horde character.

... I still parked my rogue with the express purpose of getting revenge on any lvl ?? ganking my alt whenever I was in STV, but that's another story.

On Topic: personally I always disliked the gigantic difficulty curve involved in CS:S. In order to start enjoying the game one has to resign himself to being a punch bag for the first two months.

I personally have two rules for these situations (when I'm the higher level character, obviously... otherwise, I don't get to make the rules). Firstly, if I'm somewhere they belong and I don't (as in, if I'm exploring their level 15 area at max level) they get a pass, whereas they won't be so lucky if they're somewhere they don't belong. Secondly? I never, ever, ever kill somebody more than twice unless they ask for it.

Repeatedly ganking someone lower level than you while they quest is just mean. And kinda useless. That said, using a non-damaging stun move to scare the crap out of them, and then doing nothing else, is hillarious... especially the pally one that makes 'em kneel before you.

Yup, killstreaks. I only played MW2 but they were disgustingly obnoxious.

Wasteland. Pavelow. That is all.

The way to be good at the game at that point is quite literally not to play it. Hide in a house in the corner of the map for two minutes doing jack shit, and that way you don't feed the enemy any kills to unlock further killstreaks. Sound like fun?

"Enemy Harrier incoming!"

Cue entire team diving into the central bunker and running right into claymores, respawning outside and being butchered by the Harrier.

Tell me how does unlocking all the weapons gives the player a better chance of killing you? They don't buy skill and they still have to unlock all the scopes for every single weapon. You most likely have unlocked all weapon by now and you know more about the maps you play and combos for weapon that are good.

The dude who unlock them are still gonna have to get used to the weapons and actually aim with them. NO weapon give autoaim. This argument is soo silly to complain about, this is for the EA one the other is a bigger problem. Those buying the pack are actually the loser at this point because it doesn't take much time to unlock all of them.

About criticals hits in TF2 there was a huge difference how often it happen at launch and now. It happen far less in TF2 and not like every second rocket from Soldier.

Ah yes the USAS what power it did have in BF3 with those explosive rounds, now those things barely hurt people and they still complain about them? M26 on the other hand is far more powerful than USAS ever will be.

I would have to say Jets from BF2, nothing could stop them, the fact it took DICE 2 years before we actually got any kind of chance to take them out was ridiculous. By then they have bombed their image in to every BF2 player that jet maps will not be fun unless you have a good jet pilot on your team. Nothing says fun time when jet can bomb your silly spawn every 30 second, which is the time for your tank to spawn and you get in to it.

image

Kabuto.

Seriously.

Of course it was purposefully designed that way, the multiplayer was team based where you would have one person as Kabuto and the other two races had numerous players working together to build bases and fight him while he rampaged around trying to get to his maximum size and killing you all.

Kabuto was so massive it rendered the game differently when you played as him and you were so enormous you could simply step on people and they died. You had attacks that just instantly kill anyone within melee range.

Seriously, the game was frickin awesome.

Chopper Gunner. ALL the Chopper Gunner.
The worst part is I was THAT guy most of the time, I'm a good sniper in FPS' and MW2 was no exception, on Wasteland it would get obscene, the only thing I couldn't do was face more than 1 or 2 people in the tunnel at a time. Anything else anywhere else was game for a decent sniper. My run was always UAV, X, Chopper Gunner (X changed all the time, normally harriers though). So Wasteland would be me spamming Chopper Gunners. On the one hand, lololol dieeee. On the other hand it does feel bad, especially when you have a team with friends who keep the bunker clear, they have nowhere to go...Poor little ants.

But yeah killstreaks were horribly unbalanced, even on CoD4, haven't played MW3 though. Just...a reward is nice but it was so easy to get into chains with killstreaks and even when they didn't count towards the next one a good team would just have several rolling at a time and that puts too much pressure on a weak enemy, the game becomes a landslide.

Noshahr canals on Battlefield 3.

If you're on the side that spawns on the carrier then prepare to have a whale of time trying to even make it to the docks as you're being sniped by soldiers, a tank or two and there's an enemy helicopter spawncamping and blowing up your helicopters. What do you do if your helicopters get destroyed?

....You take a boat. A little shitty thing that's just begging for a tank to blow it out of the water provided one of the snipers don't headshot your as you're driving it.

Very unbalanced map is basically what I'm getting at.

So much this! So so soooooooooo much this! I hate it when I log in to a server and its my first game and its this effing map.

Also in shooters in general I LOATHE quick scoping. I hate it with the passion of a thousand suns.

EDIT: Also on the BF3 front...the damned auto shotguns with the frag grenade rounds. Seriously. Fuck those things. From across the map you can lob a grenade with pinpoint accuracy? GTFO.

The cloaking power in Crysis 2 MP. Gosh that just pisses me off so much.

The Wykydtron:
So just a little topic, ever had any insanely unfair games/sessions/team compositions etc etc over the course of your gaming career?

For me it's got to be the Invasion system in Dark Souls 60% of the time. Basically you use an item and you enter a random person's game world and try to murder the fuck out of him for lolz. You only invade upwards level-wise though so you're always supposed to be roundabout the same level as the guy you're invading

People start to abuse the leveling system by not leveling at all and getting end-game equipment (through glitches, getting gifted it or just beating the bosses) to absolutely destroy the newer players they just get matched with. Basically after just about failing a legit Invasion of mine (at level 6 with base eqiupment, naturally) I was then set upon by this guy with the most obcene set of end-game equipment i have ever seen.

Waved at him then quit to dashboard. Not losing my Humanity over such bullshit, and to be honest killing some random noob and taking their probably only Humanity, gains you fuck all and you've just ruined some guy's day...

Another problem comes in from people summoning other people to help fight you off, that on its own is fine, the host has to do whatever it takes to live because you're just waltzing into his game session and trying to ruin potentially hours of progress. But when are actually people summoning guys in advance to wait for your supposedly "random" invade and then ambushing you it starts to seem a bit broken.

Oh, and the Red Soapstone is a joke, never use it. It's meant to be a fair fight where you put your summons down, the guy takes you up on the challenge and you fight to the death. Instead he summons a fuckton of guys, summons you and they all just spawn kill you.

You neglected to mention the final nail in Dark Souls' PVP, the lagstabs.
This doesn't affect co-op or PVE, but in PVP, lag is what really kills the competition, and turns what should be an exhilarating aspect of combat into a frustrating mess. It's why I don't partake of the PVP scene anymore.
If I could only count the number of times I lost a fuck-ton of loot to a random invader teleporting behind me...

Daystar Clarion:
Yeah, those guys suck.

Best tip I have is to simply stay hollowed and only return to human form for boss battles until you're a higher level.

This would work if you know the areas well, but for a new player, getting through some areas (Tomb of Giants, I'm looking at you) is quite a challenge.
My strategy is to bank all, or most, of my souls and humanity and un-hollow.
If you find someone to help out, it's much easier to fend off invaders.
Worst case, you die and lose the humanity you spent to un-hollow.
Best case, you kick the crap out of the invader and get some bonus loot.

i love everyone complaining about the killstreaks in modernwarfare 2 when coldblooded pro easily renders them all useless against you. and with a stinger most fall instantly afterwards...am i the only one that played stratigically like that i wonder?

OT: random crits for Saxton hale in the saxton hale mod for tf2. those coupled with his super long fucking range just kill that game mode for me and my demoknight strategy. "oh you got 4 heads, overheal, and ali baba's wee booties? here have a random crit that kills in one hit no matter how overhealed any class is" such bullshit that is.....

In Guild Wars PVP we had a deathmatch with a team of 8 Retribution/Healing spec monks. That match just lasted forever, and we couldn't deal any damage to them. They slowly chipped us down, but no matter what we did, they just wouldn't die.

Anthony Wells:
i love everyone complaining about the killstreaks in modernwarfare 2 when coldblooded pro easily renders them all useless against you. and with a stinger most fall instantly afterwards

I think the problem with killstreaks in CoD is that they're giving a team (or player) that's already doing well an added advantage that they obviously don't need and only serves to further fuck up the balance of the game. The fact that they're counterable is sort of besides the point, in my mind at least.

I'm with you in that as soon as I get perks that invalidate killstreaks I use them, but that doesn't change the underlying problem with them.

In the recent Guild Wars 2 beta, Thieves.

They had too much utility, it was ridiculous, since you can't break a thief that's in stealth back out of it. And, in downed state, they had an ability named "smoke bomb", it teleported them randomly a slight distance away and stealth them for a few seconds, which meant in team fights, as long as they had a distraction nearby, they didn't die and the teleport could also bring them through walls, and up stairs.

Arnoxthe1:
In the hands of a pro, the Sniper Rifle in Halo. If you don't have anything to at least harass him with, you're dead.

That gun....it would rip apart everything.
I used to love playing Blood Gulch, but if there was a good sniper he would lop off your head EVERY time. Even more annoying if they shoot the driver of your Warthog

OT: The AKS74U from Black Ops was very over powered, and the FMG69 or whatever it is from MW3. There are plenty of unfair thing's, but CoD tends to top the list because if a gun is nerfed, it becomes utterly useless. Considering the amount of CoD players, the lack of balance is surprising

Of course it doesnt defend them ebing there but it makes them being there kinda pointless.

Agreed with Dark souls. I pretty much just don't even play it anymore because of how crap the PvP was. I wanted to try fighting some guy's but everybody and I mean everybody had some kind of stupid end game level lightning weapon that they could use to 2 shot me to death even if I block.

I just got so bored of it that I haven't bothered going back yet.

Every class had a familiar downed spell to that
Thieves also have low health and only do large amounts of damage through backstabs
Also, invisibility lasts a few seconds max, none of this endless cloak like in similar rpgs
In no way were the thieves overpowered.

The PVP in dark souls is certainly annoying. I only play as a hollow for exactly that reason, even though I certainly have the humanity to spare to be human.

But the game is awsome as soon as you get the hang of it (until you've completed it once it's unfair, then you know the game well enough to have fun, which isn't really the best way to do thing,. I liked demon souls better solely for this reason) and jolly cooperation is fun.

The most overpowered thing in multiplayer is when your brother screen watches. Always rage-inducing!

I actually like playing with four friends while we all try to screen-cheat. It makes the games so fast paced and forces you to keep your eye on everyone else's screen at the same time. Plus the kill-cams can be hilarious if someone just shoots them through cover or a blind grenade kill.

Other players that are better than you, must be hacking.

Didn't exactly said that it was exp.99 who said that, what I'm saying is that the buy unlock system for BF3 isn't a big deal since no weapon is locked to pay users only. Everyone can get those guns. For other games it's different but for BF3 its not since most people who played from the start have most likely unlocked all the weapons and most people just stick to a single weapon forever. Also most of the starting weapon are better than the later ones, there are few selected ones that actually is a little bit better but not by a grand mile.

It's mostly unfair with vehicles. It's hard to get kills with jet machineguns until you're good at flying, so the first few kills until you get heat seekers (and flares!) are a lot of work. Buying that gives you a massive advantage. When BF3 came out I spent maybe 6 hours getting the hang of flying a jet, slowly gathering points through assissts and disables until I finally unlocked heatseekers (they were still useful back then, especially since few people had flares) Same thing with every other vehicle, best stuff comes last

Which brings me to an unfair thing: Vehicle and weapon unlocks. I get that you have to unlock stuff, but would it really kill the leveling if all vehicles started out with smokes/flares/methods to lose locks?
I really hated it in BF: BC2, where everyone and their mother ran around with magnum ammo, which you didn't get until level 18, meaning you were outgunned until you reached that level.
I hate perks which increase damage anyway, since they're usually the least useful perks but you'll get killed fast if you don't have it. IN BF:BC2 when I got magnum ammo I continued running around with the medkit upgrades instead of that. I got lots of heals and points, but I got gunned down in nearly every straight firefight. Not fun.
