How to Increase Carryweight in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered

Here's how you can increase your carryweight in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered and get rid of encumbrance quickly.

In The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered, having a high carryweight stat is important because it lets you carry more equipment into a fight.

There’s, however, a limit to how much you can carry, and if you overshoot that limit, you’ll not be able to run at all. Every single item from armor sets to weapons to consumables has weight, so it’s essential to choose what you need and what you don’t. Yes, there are console commands and mods that can permanently increase your carryweight stat, but that isn’t how Bethesda wants you to play.

How to Remove Encumbrance in Oblivion Remastered

Encumbrance is the maximum weight that you can carry at any given point. When you cross this limit, your movement is restricted, and you’ll lose stamina at a quicker pace. You also won’t be able to jump or travel fast to different areas. So, if you want to regain those abilities, you’ll have to lose some weight or increase your maximum carryweight capacity.

Apart from console commands, there are a few ways to alter your carrying capacity:

  • Increase Strength Stat: Your Strength stat directly affects how much weight you can carry in Oblivion Remastered. If you’re looking for a permanent increase in carryweight capacity, then be sure to invest more points in the Strength stat every time you level up.
  • Use Potions: Potions like Fortify Strength or Feather can drastically increase the number of items you can carry. However, the effects of these potions are temporary, so make sure to reach a chest you own and store whatever items you don’t need.
  • Use Spells: Just like potions, using spells can also do the job for you, but you’ll have to learn the appropriate spells before you can cast them. Spells like Ease Burden and Pack Mule can help you temporarily increase your carryweight capacity at the cost of Magicka.

Use the console command player.forceav encumbrance -X if you’re looking for a more permanent method, but don’t want to spend time leveling up your Strength stat. You can replace the X value by any figure you like, but make sure it’s more than your total carryweight capacity in Oblivion Remastered. If it’s less, then you won’t get the desired effects. Using a console command locks you out from earning achievements and trophies, so make sure you make a separate manual save before you use these commands.
