Gearbox Software and 2K Games announced plans to release a new game in the series earlier this year but shared no additional information at that time. While the first game, developed by Telltale Games, ended its five-episode story on a cliffhanger, today’s New Tales from the Borderlands leak makes no mention of the characters and story from that game. The player instead controls new characters named Anu, Octavio, and Fran. You can read the description in full from Amazon below:

Take a stand against ruthless corporate overlords in this narrative-driven adventure! Within the perpetually war-torn metropolis of Promethea, you’ll control Anu, Octavio, and Fran on the worst day of their lives. Help these three lovable losers as they endeavor to change the world (and maybe even save it)! Face down a planetary invasion, vicious vault monster, and cold-hearted capitalist in this cinematic thrill ride where what happens next is up to you! Meet a motley cast full of misfits, assassin bots, and talking guns in this race to the top! It’s time to fight back against exploitation and corporate greed. It’s time to make Mayhem your business.

New Tales from the Borderlands’ “five-part story” will follow a new path, but there will be “a host of returning and fresh faces” too. Additionally, the store page says that player choice will guide the narrative and decide its outcome. Preordering New Tales from the Borderlands Deluxe Edition ahead of its apparent October release date nets buyers the Adventure Capital Pack, which comes with cosmetics for the three protagonists, 10,000 in-game currency, and an in-game FL4K Vaultlander Collectible.

The Borderlands series started back in 2009 and has since grown to include three mainline entries and a myriad of spinoff games. There is an Eli Roth-directed live-action film on the way too. It’s not yet clear when New Tales From the Borderlands will take place within the Borderlands timeline, but with Gamescom just around the corner and that alleged release date set for October, we can hope to learn more in the very near future.
