Resident Evil 4 Remake Reportedly Coming in 2022, M-Two as Developer

A new VGC report states Capcom has a Resident Evil 4 remake in the works from former PlatinumGames head Tatsuya Minami’s new studio, M-Two. The game is slated for 2022 and has been in some form of development since 2018, according to “multiple development sources,” but other studios both internal to Capcom and external are likely to support the project’s development as well, the same as occurred with Resident Evil 3.

Original Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami is said to have been approached to lead the project in the past, though he declined due to his commitment to making GhostWire: Tokyo. He gave his blessing to the project and provided “informal advice” on the Resident Evil 4 remake’s direction though.

The Resident Evil 4 remake would follow Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes, which garnered praise from fans and critics alike. M-Two also supported development of the Resident Evil 3 remake, with Minami listed as an executive producer. Besides recent experience on the series, the number of veterans supporting the project promises something really special for fans of the series.

Resident Evil 4 is regarded as one of the highest rated games of all time, with an aggregate score of 96 on the game’s Metacritic GameCube page. Additionally, this fourth entry in the survival horror franchise has been ported to nearly every proceeding console since release thanks to its status as a defining third-person action game. Now, it seems the classic title may finally be given a fresh(er) coat of paint.

Many rumors have popped up over the the last few months providing potential details on Capcom’s plans for Resident Evil 8 as well. Time will tell if these rumors and reports turn out to be true.
