Those weird, unexplainable quirks you have. What are some of yours?

So you actually are Jeremy Clarkson then?

Nah. If I was I'd be too busy powersliding to post on Escapist. :3

Also I have no qualms about American cars. I love me a good V8.

I've been told I sometimes sound very british when I ask questions.

My right leg is less flexible than my left leg.

I drop something at least once per day.

I can't eat a torn piece of cheese like you would put on a sandwich. If the cheese I'm about to put on my sandwich gets torn in any way, I have to throw it out.

Scarim Coral:
Three things-

Apperantly it's weird for me for having no accent at all (I'm from the UK before you asked). However my driving instuctor did thought my accent was American but I can assure you it's not an American accent at all.

I do not have an accent either. Or rather, my "accent" is an incoherent mishmash of several different accents (Southern US, Californian, Oklahoman, Louisianan are the larger parts of it, but I still tend to have accents from areas I've never even visited, like England or India). So I might as well not have one at all.

-I have a stutter.
-I can't look people in the eye while talking to them, i'll choose to stare at some point over their shoulders, or anything around them that will remotely hold my attention.
-When I play any kind of video game, I will never be "pro" at it, I always reach a certain level of skill, then stop, no matter how much I play it, I won't be able to get better then that level, why, I don't know.
-I sometimes don't pick up on jokes, I'll automatically assume that whatever someone says is the truth, before I actually think about it (then if their lying, I'll pick up on it, but I always assume they're telling the truth first).
-Perhaps because of the point above, I find it very difficult to lie, and if I feel like I telling the truth wouldn't be the best option, I often just say nothing.

-Also, this:

GonvilleBromhead:
I chew everything that's possibly chewable. Pens especially, but also random bits of plastic.

Probably not good for my teeth, but I just can't stop myself doing it lol.

I have a speech impediment, for every c turns into a t and every g turns into a d . Always had it.

People say I am a great people person, I make some of the best speeches in my class (a five and half minute speech on the lungs while a majority of other people had about 2-3 minutes and I STILL got people to laugh).

Here comes the part which makes it quirk, I hate being around people. I get freaked out easily if to many people stare at me and if someone attempets to talk to me I get stuttery and shy-ish.

I also hate text language
Y R U no rding ths rght

I have really pretty hair or so I get told. . . a lot. To an almost suspect degree.

I can't breathe with my mouth if I smell something disgusting. When I was a kid(like really little) I thought you actually got what was smelling bad inside you while breathing with the mouth, but somehow the nose was free game.
It really sucks sometimes.

I prefer to stand rather than sit.

I always prefer to walk rather than take a car ride.

It isn't that bad and it will at least keep me active.

Verzin:
I have major personality shifts. like...really major ones. Possibly indicative of bipolar disorder, but I dunno.

I will go from something like 'Everything's so awesome! tralalalal! look at the pretty bird' to 'I hate my life' to 'I want to watch everything around me die screaming in a fire' in the space of an hour. It doesn't happen if I'm doing something, but if I'm ever alone with my thoughts unpleasant things start happening.

There are more stable individuals than I.

Nah, that's not bipolar, that sounds more like Borderline Personality Disorder.
Might want to look into it.

As for me, not much that isn't explainable.
Yeah, I have pretty much analysed myself to the point that everything I do I can explain.
Make a new thread titled "Those weird, explainable quirks you have. What are some of yours?" Then I'll be able to post something of interest.

i love rain and darkness
i like to avoid seriuos work by sitting in forums (like now)

I'm just plain friggin weird. My thought patterns reflect this quite easily.

For instance, have you ever stuck a balloon filled with helium up your ass? And if you farted, do you wonder if it would sound like a duck call? Or if you stuck a balloon filled with sulfur hexaflouride up your ass? And if you farted, would it sound roughly like Rush Limbaugh?

I have these kind of thoughts quite often. It keeps me entertained in this boring existence I call life.

I'm not one of those people who goes "oh I've got a couple of quirks! Self-diagnosed OCD!" There are a couple of things I do though:

- I don't like it when the light switches are 'wrong'. Some of the lights in my house have multiple on/off switches, and it gets on my nerves when they're out of 'sync'.
- When hanging clothes on the washing line, the pegs on one object have to be the same colour or it annoys me.

That's really it now that I think about it. I might have forgotten something, thinking it's something normal people do...

EDIT: Remembered another one:

- I always run up and down stairs. Not in a hurry or anything, I just always pick up speed when I'm on stairs.

I wanted to post some weird quirks that I have but all I can think of is that I will pronounce certain words with a Long Island accent. Chocolate for example will be pronounced "Choclete" with no O sound and an E instead of an A. My brother picks on me relentlessly for this. Also when agitated I develop a very Southern accent, I live in the mid atlantic US (Maryland).

My mindspace is more used for random nerdy trivia rather than actual useful stuff in real life. For instance, if you name a voice actor, I can tell you what roles they played in a show/video game/movie/ect.

shadyh8er:
I can't stand the sound of people spitting! It's just...uugggggh! And god forbid it's a big loogie! The sound they make when they hit the concrete makes me shudder.

You too, huh?

I think I was one of the only kids in high school who didn't hock even once. And yes, the sight of it made me fucking sick, too. Still does.

I once even sat next to a kid in elementary school who had the nasty habit of spitting on his knee and then licking it up... He was an exchange student.

For some reason, I give The People's Eyebrow when having a serious discussion. Very distracting, but funny.

I'm mentally introverted, but behave like an extrovert (don't ask why, personal issues); this leads to interesting scenarios where I think to myself at the same time as I talk to another person, kinda like a Mass Effect conversation, except less meaningful and more ambiguously pointless.

I usually know what is going around me, but you wouldn't know that because I always either fake ignorance or obfuscate stupidity to allow for normal social dynamic. Ergo, I have to act dumber than I actually am to have a normal conversation!

Evil Smurf:
I can't get hungover. It is genetic :D

You are either lying, or the Devil.
I'm going to go with the Devil!

Here's another one:

When I get bored, I get hungry.
When I get nervous, I get tired.

Weird, I know.

Alright, fine:
*I have an excessive love for Coffee, but I have to have sugar in it
*I tend to doodle on things that you normally wouldn't doodle on, like Coffee cups
*When I doodle, the doodles are often incredibly surreal and bizzare
*I write left-handed, and I hold my pencils in a fashion considered "odd" by my peers
*According to my dentist, my jaw moves in ways that most human jaws can't
*I will often place my thumb and forefinger on my chin, not only when I'm trying to think, just doing anything
*I stay up ridiculously late at night and sleep in even later
*I absolutely love to watch awful movies, just so I can mock them, MST3K style

Toothpaste makes me gag.

That must make brushing your teeth an awkward experience...

I do have a lot of trouble with this, as hygiene is very important to me and I brush my teeth frequently. I end up having to keep a lot of milk and water on hand to settle my tummy. Oh well, I'm ever hopeful.

I know that feel, sis. It's not exactly the same but (*sigh* ...here come the dick jokes...) I have really bad gag reflex and putting non-food objects in my mouth makes me gag and upsets my tummy. I have to brush my teeth in a weird way xP

Also you have very little chance of me picking up other people's dirty laundry. I just can't do it, especially socks and underwear.
Also I have 15 bottles of conditioner right now. I collect them like it's gold.

Verzin:

I will go from something like 'Everything's so awesome! tralalalal! look at the pretty bird' to 'I hate my life' to 'I want to watch everything around me die screaming in a fire' in the space of an hour.

Bitch please, I can get through that twice in 60 seconds.

Bon Bons.

I fucking hate bon bons!!!

Even someone saying the word "Bon Bons" makes me shiver.

Also, I'll always sniff something before eating/drinking it but only for the first bite/sip. I'm not sure if that's odd but my family thinks it is.

- Everything must be perfectly tidy and in order otherwise it must be a total mess
- I always feel that I'm going to get me front set of teeth caught in: forks, cheese graters and them old fashioned microphones (the ones that are cuboid shaped with the long holes in em)
- Quiet room with some one casually writing with a pencil thats loud enough to hear sends nice feeling of shivers down me spine
- Me knee paces up and down when I'm nervous or completely awake
- I crack all me joints whenever I can
- I hate it when plugs are turned on when there's nothing in them
- I chew pens and pencils whenever I have one in my hand
- I tend to think how I can torture someone I absolutely hate in person in the most gory, humiliating, undignifying, painful and downright excessively long way possible when I get pissed off slightly
- I constantly browse Wikipedia looking up stuff that crosses my mind briefly throughout the day and I get kinda down when I can't remember what I was looking for (e.g. movies, people, phrases etc.)
- I tend to have random outbursts of stupid immature phrases or quotes when I'm bored
- I hate the letter Q and words that sound like they should belong to something else (though I can't name any unless someone says 'em)

For most of my life, I had a compulsion where I counted the number of stairs in any staircase I went up or down. I only just got over that in the past couple years, but I could get around my house really well at night because I could count my way up all the stairs in the dark. I would also count floor tiles, ceiling tiles, or anything else I could see. If there was nothing to count, I would do math problems in my head over and over

I can't stand even a single out of place thing on my bed or computer desk. I'm looking at an Odwalla bottle on my desk right now and wanting to throw it in the recycling so badly, but I'm wiped out from training today and really don't want to do anything before bed. Of course, the rest of my house can have clothes, papers, and random junk everywhere and I couldn't even give a 0.0000000000000000023 of a fuck.

Bet you want to rip my guts out and chew on them now, don't you.

I have no accent in English.... seriously. Also, I subconsciously change my vocabulary depending on where I am and who I am talking to.
I can stretch my skin a lot.
I can make any situation awkward, and am drawn to making situations awkward.
Don't understand my home country's culture, feel like a foreigner here. (Explanation: grew up around the world.)
Very sensitive skin, im ticklish everywhere (v. annoying when with girls).
Dont mind blood, but get nauseus with cuts.
Hate needles.

I jump inexplicably whenever someone touches one of my shoulders. Every time without fail. I have no rational explanation behind this behavior. When my friends discover this, they love to make me jump.

People tend to think I sound like a "rich person" when I speak.

I haven't clipped my fingernails with nail clippers since I was 6-7 years old. I always end up picking and peeling the tips off.

I love having something in my hand, preferably something malleable like silly putty or dried glue. Right now I'm holding a small clump of duct tape adhesive I peeled off a few pieces of duct tape.

I love to peel off the labels of soda bottles.

I always get a very vivid vision of the worst case scenario whenever I'm doing overwise completely benign things. For example, when holding a baby, I get a vision of my accidently dropping it. When walking in a yard with dog poop on it, I'll see myself stepping in it.

-My imagination is rather overflowing, allowing me to create such things in an instant: "The waffle made of watermelon is currently overflowing the walls of the pancake overlords, whilst the griffins from space seem to be rather intolerant of this action, resulting in the betrayal of the space apes, who are the griffins' allies."
This makes writing creative essays fun.
-I also cannot stand a hangnail or loose skin on my fingers. This is especially in effect during the middle of a test, which distracts me.
-I am very good at remembering small, unimportant stuff. Like how the negotiation scene between Stannis and Renly didn't involve the peach in the TV show. Or my multiple regrets over the years that haunt me.
-I often hold stick-like foods (Cheese sticks, pretzel rods, et cetera) to my mouth like a cigarette although I have a distaste for smoking/smokers.
-I can spend a couple hours outside and then eat food with my hands, but if I pet my friend's dog, GOTTA GET ME SOME SOAPS!

I do a lot of really weird things for no reason.

Some of my more annoying quirks are:

- When I brush my teeth, only one of my two hands get wet in the process. So I would get into bed, realise the other is a little greasy from not being washed and so I get up and wash the other.

- I spend a solid 5 minutes inspecting apple packs at the shop until I find a pack without any noticable bruises.

- When I drive (or was learning to drive), I'd come to a stop and almost always quickly slide my finger across my nose. I don't know why.

Unfortunately, that's all I have right now, but I'll think of more.

EDIT: Ooo another one!

- I always run up and down stairs, because the day I stop doing that, is the day I'll be willing to admit I'm old.

- I can't go to the toilet in public toilets if there's people talking in there, no matter how much I want to.

- I love going to sleep when there's heavy rain outside. The patter of the rain on the window drowns out all the annoying background noises.

Southern accent? I live in Maryland... how are you getting a Southern accent, i'm confused : P

I am completely fucking bonkers when it comes to Baldurs gate, I feel the need to mention it whenever I can...

I love that fucking game.

Loads of stuff I say always seems to come out wrong and not make sense/ sounds really formal for some reason. I also remember way too much random facts and not remember important stuff.

[quote="bojackx" post="18.376850.14697746"]
- I spend a solid 5 minutes inspecting apple packs at the shop until I find a pack without any noticable bruises.

It always takes me several minutes to decide on something to buy, even something really cheap like a sandwich. I just stand there comparing the merits of BLT to Chicken and Stuffing or something...

Damn I'm strange.

-I can't ever, ever, ever agree with myself. I always look at things from all sides, and it's basically a constant battle royale between different opinions in my brain.
-That brings me to my next point; I don't consider myself as a person with an opinion. I pick up the opinions of others and call them my own, and whoever happens to be shouting the loudest is the dominant one.

For example, I loved the first Halo. Then I hated the guts of the first Halo. Now I love it again.

-I am completely incapable of sleep between 12:00 and 22:00. No matter how tired I am, even if I went to sleep around 4 in the morning, I will always be up at noon.
-I have Exploding Head Syndrome, though that's more of a mental issue than a quirk.
-I hate, HATE emoticons. I don't get them, I'll never get them, whenever someone uses one my fingers hover twitching over my keyboard and I have to restrain myself from not verbally murdering this person.
-I tend to turn off all of my senses and be alone with my thoughts. No amount of input can pull me out of this state, and I can keep it up for hours.
-I am always hungry.
-I want to know how humans taste. Call it a weird interest, but I just want to know. If they ever sucessfully synthesise human muscle tissue and it's cheap, I'm in.
-I tend to get a little feral when I smell blood, meat, well baked fleshy goods, all that stuff. My thoughts become foggy and my vision gets a reddish tint when I smell stuff, but when I actually set my teeth into a juicy steak, my thoughts shut down and it's all senses and instinct.
