An Indonesian woman drowned her nine-year-old son in the bath, claiming she was worried that his "small penis" would affect his prospects for the future, a police spokesman said Thursday.

The 38-year-old woman from the capital Jakarta told police her son had had a small penis prior to being circumcised, but that it appeared to shrink further after the operation, police spokesman Rikwanto, who goes by one name, told AFP.

"She told police investigators that she killed him as he would have a bleak future with his small penis," Rikwanto said.

"She drowned her son in a bathtub filled with water. She then dressed him and laid him on a bed. After that, she went to a nearby police office to report her crime."

Rikwanto said the woman was fully conscious of what she had done, but police ordered a psychological test to assess her mental condition.

My take on it is that she's freakin nuts. At the very least she's got severe sociopathy/psychopathy. You just CAN'T calmly murder a child you brought into the world yourself in cold blood and not be insane. There's a natural instinct to protect your children. X_X

Just out of curiosity , what would you think a normal person would do after killing their child ? Assuming that you don't think that anyone who kills is automatically mentally unsound . And for the record i personally think normal people can kill and still be mentally sound .

In the US, doctors who decide a infant's penis is too small just perform surgery making the infant a girl.
So we don't have murdering in a tub (though sometimes we have that, too), but we do have involuntary surgery on an infant's genitalia because we don't deal well with the complexity and variety of nature.

I think normal people can commit murder, of course. I just have trouble believing that a parent can kill their own child (who isn't a newborn) over a totally arbitrary reason and not freak the fuck out afterwards. I mean, unless she went into shock but she had obviously thought about killing him, it didn't seem like a spur of the moment thing.

That's a fair question, but one I can't answer in depth here at the moment. I will say that I disagree with your hypothesis, and would welcome the evidence you possess to support it. In general, I find that public reactions to various crimes somewhat predictable from a psychological element, one that others have taken the time to research and build various campaigns to correct. Consider the psychology involved and the statistical support for it; I find it strange that you may (or may not) find fault in the mere notion that I point it out where it seems most appropriate. Why do you feel it is not worth the mention?
