Ok, so I signed up and tried to take a survey. After I completed it VGM Surveys redirected me to Clear Voice surveys (the sites look identical). So after trying to sign-in repeatedly and failing, I created an account on Clear Voice...now neither site acknowledges the survey I took. Yay scams.

I should note that I trust the Escapist, but I don't like being redirected to clone sites.

Alot of people got that, I think its because one of the surveys is broken. I took the others and have earned .60$ but still haven't gotten any more invites to any other surveys. So escapist I know you guys aren't trying to scam me, but do you know if this company is trying to scam you?

I had faith in The Escapist, like many of my Escapist brethren, but now not being able to access the sight I am draped in a blanket of caution. I've been spam-scammed before, there lies dormant a dangerously maxed out inbox on an old '@msn.com' account and I'd hate for my new one to go South too.

I'm taking Spinwhiz' word that this is legit, but if I get a piece of junk mail before I get a survey, it's curtains. I shall be displeased Esapist!

This notion right here, this has me worried.

haxxorzd00d:
Hmm. After filling out all the profiles 100% and receiving no survey invites, the site is now mysteriously offline.

"Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete, just like the survey reward redemption process."

The plot thickens.

Delete your cookies. Worked for me.

I signed up, completed all the profile stuff.

No quizzes yet...

Hope this isn't a scam >.> ...

I had the same experience. However it seems that VG market usually redirects to consumers surveys. I doubt this is a problem with VGMarket but instead with the site they directed us to(still bad but not scam). Just to confirm my suspicions I tried another survey that directed to a different site and after completion I was given credit. This means that some of them work and some don't.

Just in case you need proof here's a pic.(pending just means it has to wait for the survey to close).

I will be waiting for them to suggest surveys themselves instead of trying the ones that they say might work.

I said as much in a thread in the members section, every inch of common sense I have gained on the internet over the years says this is a scam.

I trust the Escapist but I'm not touching this with a 9 foot poll.

Kris015:
This sounds too good to be true.

Ah, yes, someone nailed it.

All market surveys are done to make money off consumers, not to pay them vast amounts of cash. Very little will be awarded if any to the thousands that will do the surveys. I hate to sound like a negative Nancy but that is the truth.

It's interesting (I just signed up), but... so many qyestions...

Some get kinda personal. I tried to be as vague as possible, but they want you address and cell phone number.

I also notice that nowhere do they mention how much you get paid per survey.

Spinwhiz:
Okay, answers are in:

  1. How exactly will you know if we signed up? (cause I did)

    • You will get an email very shortly confirming your registration
  2. Can I take the surveys without signing up? (don't care about money and prices just want to state my opinion)

    • No, you must sign up
  3. So, the only way to get reward money, outside the US, is to have a MasterCard?

    • VGMarket pays you with a pre-paid mastercard full of money when you redeem
  4. How do we get our (hopefully) pretty noises (Music CD)?

    • They will email everyone a link and a code to get the CD within 48 hours
  5. When and how do I start? (taking surveys)

    • People should continue to login to their dashboard on VGMarket Surveys and they'll see new opportunities as well as be alerted via email when a survey opportunity is available for them
  6. How does this work for people under 18, as I am not eligible to handle credit card matters or such?

    • You have to be 13 or older to register. There is no credit card necessary, VGMarket never asks any payment info
  7. Nice, but I don't understand why everyone needs a registration with a full name, address etc.

    • They need the registration info to know which surveys to send you and to provide their clients with quality assurances (it's a market research requirement that survey-takers be registered users)
  8. Now I'm not even being allowed back onto the webpage. I'm feeling either very stupid for
myself or my internet, which one is it?

    • May just be due to over-crowding. Please try again later.
  9. When a survey is filled out, does it show up on our account instantly, or does it take time?

    • It will show up as "pending" in the account and you'll see the pending and earned rewards in your rewards balance

The registration information is kept completely secret, nobody will ever see and they do not under any circumstances sell that or give it away. The answers participants give to surveys belong to VGMarket clients but clients will not be given their names with the answers...so the answers participants give will never be traced back to them.

Looks good, Ill sign up right away! thanks for verifying

I'll have to sleep on this. Suspicious Macker is suspicious.

I'll bet that one company contracts with the other for use of the sofware and theres some sort of bug.. VGM is legit though, I've worked with them locally before (like sat down with their employees in a focus group setting. This looks similar to their main site (www.vgmarket.com) so.. I'll bet its just them trying to get into the online survey market.. (since Clear Voice seems to be a general survey company that works in many industries) Smart way to go by using The Escapist as a spring board.

Also, looks like they have a facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/vgmarket

The sheep say "Baaaaaaa"

*not signing

The fact that the link here routes us the the standard VGMarket registration page, and not an escapist specific page has me... somewhat concerned. There's no way, during the registration process, to indicate that you are an Escapist member or that you were referred through the escapist.

Feels like a scam to me.

Also: did anyone else notice that the registration confirmation email comes from clear-voice and not VGMS?

I believe pre-paid credit cards function differently to normal credit cards.

Its a variable passed in the url. The link it sends you to is http://www.vgmarketsurveys.com/?campaign=escapist

That campaign=escapist part is what lets The Escapist get credit. :)

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelll i signed up.. stil lwaiting for "invitations" to do surverys.. so well see.

So it does! Good eye.

I guess I'll give it a spin. The Escapist never lied plus I can do it if I'm in NZ!

Market research is a hugely beneficial market to be in. If you can get companies information they need, you get huge payouts. but no one wants to fill out surveys for free.

It isn't a scam. As I said above, people need market research, but people aren't willing to do loads of surveys like this with no reward. The people who hire this company to get people to fill out these surveys would pay VGM a lot of money. You're talking at least tens of thousands, probably more. These sorts of places make revenue through it, and in order to attract customers they have to offer rewards.

I did work experience a few years ago, and I worked at a place that sent you sweets as an incentive for doing surveys and such.

So no, it definitely isn't a scam. And the pricing is per survey. I got the offer to do an half hour survey for 0.60. You're not going to make a lot of money, and VGM is.

I have to admit, this seemed to eery for me after some of the really sensitive questions they asked.
I cancelled my account, and they said I could still reactivate it if I wanted to... Which means they can still get my info if they wanted to... which is a little unsettling.

I trust the escapist enough to know that it wouldn't lead me astray, and I even trust that the survey group won't contact me again or use my personal information in any harmful way, but the whole thing just gave me an uneasy feeling.

Same shit happened to me with the general survey. But the technology one works. I tried another one, but no luck, so now I just hope I get accepted into a survey, cause all I nave is that .50 credits coming to me.

*Edit*

OH SHIT! I just took the Digital Camera survey and said someone else baught and used the camera, and it finished the survey giving me only.10. Should have just lied...lol

I'm kind of lazy. Plus I'm mot gonna be here for a week, so I don't know if I'll sign up until I get back. Plus I just don't like taking surveys, lol.

Well, this has been kind of a roller coaster for me! First I thought, gee, it's The Escapist, it's safe! Then it seemed real shady. Too good to be true. But I completed my profile 100%. Now, people are getting surveys and rewards.

But I'm not! When do I get 'em? I'm poor and desperate and willing to let them know every detail of my VERY SOUL!

*ahem*

Yeah, I hope I haven't done this for nothing. :/

Sweet I signed up. Gotta spend some time filling out my profile info.... -_-

While I don't usually touch stuff like this ever, I trust you guys. Hope that this really isn't a scam. But hey, I'm just a skeptic when it comes to most things(namely everything).

WHERES MY MONEY AN MUCIS

WHERES MY MONEY AN MUCIS

Spinwhiz already said, it'll be within 48hours-for the music. You have to do surveys to earn money. Or win contests.

Well
If I get spam I'll be mad
Don't disappoint me Escapist.
*Disappears into the night*

Sounds like too many people aren't part of survey sites lol Not everything is a scam people. The place is totally legit, you won't get to many surveys at the beginning, they'll probably email you once you get new ones. They ask you a lot of the same questions a lot too, since it's for different market research places. You won't get a lot of money for it, you're just participating in free polls that give a little money.

As for me I'm not signing up cause I'm already part of a survey site group and probably get an Itunes or gamestop gift card once in a while.

As someone who is paranoid and has been burned a few times on scams I think I'll hold off. I trust the escapist a lot but...I think I'll wait to see how this all goes down before going near it. So far it seems like the questions are invasive and the site is a bit shifty...

Always_Remain:
The Escapist sure seems paranoid today.

We're all afraid of losing our identities because the Escapist went turncoat.
Although the privacy policy kind of quells my fears a little
A LITTLE
" * We will not make any personal information of our participants available to anyone without your knowledge (as described in this policy), except in the rare instances required by law. This includes your name, e-mail address, zip code, age, and gender.
* We will never try to sell you anything - that is not our business. We will never sell your name to anyone else who might want to sell you anything.
* Your individual responses to surveys will also be kept confidential and will never be linked to your personal identifying information.
* Your decisions about participating in a study, responding to specific questions, or discontinuing participation will be respected without question.
* When you register for the invitation list, we collect the following personal identifying information: your name, age, gender, zip code, and email address.
"
Edit: And just incase this goes to court or something, printed and stored the documents.

yeah i'm gonna pass as well i think. i'll stick with my day job.
