Analyst Calls It: Nintendo Wins the Console War

 Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 NEXT

And WHERE is PC in this "winning" the generation? Not a single quote of the number of gaming GPUs sold?

It should be obvious to EVERYONE that including Wii and excluding PC this in factoring who will "Win" this generation has absolutely zero relevance to the fortunes and interest of real gaming enthusiasts. I'm not talking ultra-hardcore just any gamer with some real gaming experience.

Analysts can cram it with their out of touch definitions.

In sales? Yes.

In quality? No.

Woodsey:
In sales? Yes.

In quality? No.

FTW

I thought it was decided the PS3 won the war? I mean, in terms of sales it failed but of all my systems, its the best quality, has broken down the least(which is saying something since I play it most) and It has recently got a plethora of good games available to play on it. I mean, if PS3 didn't win, then surely at least the 360 did?

Does anyone even play the Wii anymore? My cat chewed through the sensor bar wire a year ago and I've yet to replace it, not because of cost (it's only 15 buck for fucks sake) but because I just don't care to. I don't think any serious gamer would consider the Wii a "real" console anyway. I'll stick to my 360, thanks.

As I must remind everyone who makes this comment, the attach rate for the Wii is higher than that of the PS3. So yes, people are still playing Wii. Don't assume because you don't like it that nobody else does.

I'm only saying that out of the 20 or so people I know who own a Wii only about 1 or two still play it on occasion. If people like the Wii that's awesome, I'm glad they've found a console they can enjoy and props to them. So please, don't assume because YOU still enjoy the Wii that everybody else does or has too. I'll be playing MW2, Screed 2, Dragon Age, Bioshock 2, and Mass Effect 2. Have fun with Carnival games and Cooking Mama.

There are over 58 million Wii owners. 20 of your close friends aren't enough to make a reliable survey of the entire audience. I'm not assuming anything, I'm just reminding you that people do like and buy stuff for their Wiis.

Xzi:
Good for Nintendo. Now hopefully they take all that influence/revenue from the Wii and use it to actually try to COMPETE with the other hardware manufacturers during the next console generation.

Personnally, i dont they they must. In the hardware race, i mean.
If they create new games with good, innovative gameplay (as opposed to games centered around their uber graphics) i dont mind the lower quality hardware at all. Less work in the graphic department (usually) means more work in other things.

Xbowhyena:
Nintendo's main purpose is to make money, not make good games.

Nintendo makes good games for its consoles. It is the other publishers who don't know how to make the good games.

I am seeing a lot people bashing Nintendo for not making the kind of games they play. It is funny how people get all pissy and make fun of Nintendo for not catering exclusively to them. Is it really so bad if Nintendo makes games for people other than the hardcore elites who crave super hi def graphics and mature content? No, it isn't so quit bashing a console that makes other people happy and act like you really don't care by shutting the fuck up.

edward92:
snip

Apparently you did not read my post. AT ALL.

Never once did I say I was specifically targeting the Wii. I just don't like motion controls in general. Natal, Sonywand, Wiimote. They're all the same garbage. I'm not biased towards or against any of them any more than the others. I prefer actually playing a game as an alternative to swinging my arms about and waiting for the new perfect version to come out. No thank you.

Now are you gonna read a little better next time? Or do I need to get you glasses?

FROGGEman2:
I have a feeling that "Wii HD" will be coming out next year.

I fucking hope not.

HD has done NOTHING for the games industry except drive production costs through the roof, which just removes any incentive for creativity and innovation from the industry.

Dear hateboys: Enjoy your grayish-brown shooters where the only light comes from the massive amounts of bloom all over everything, because that's what HD gets you.

Ah, but don't you know? The only REAL games out there are the ones with Grizzled Space Marines, everything else is for those dirty unwashed "casual" gamers.

So what, they'll never make another console? I just think that another console of theirs is coming out and that it features hardware that is up to scratch with current gaming systems.

Nintendo don't need to release another console to keep up with the times. Think how many people really care about HD. For example, is a HD TV any good to somebody with bad eyesight? Alot of people still do not know the difference. Maybe when HD becomes the standard in everybody's home then Nintendo should. HD is not going to determine sales. I know lots of people playing their Ps3 and 360 on a standard plasma or flat screen TV and they think the games look great. See, to the average gamer such things as HD is not really a necessity. Its all about having fun. And a decent HD TV isn't the cheapest thing around. For the record, Games that do not run at full HD (like most xbox and ps3 games) look shit on a 42cm HD screen, specially with no anti-aliasing. Thats like me running a game at 800x600 on my 22" Lcd on my pc.

Analysts call it Nintendo makes mostly shitty games with a few gems.

Seriously though everything can't really be analysed and the fact analyst has the word anal in the name makes it so much worse.

Well just because the WII sells most rigs doesn't mean they are the best console. I mean lets face it, the wii is played by housewives, old people and kids under 12, for which there is a much bigger market. Swinging a stick around is not viewed as fun by most gamers, certainly not by me. I don't care about any "console wars" though, its just something that fanboys do to think they are relevant in some way. Im happy with my pc but i also think playing on the x-box would be mega fun.

It doesn't really matter, and one way or the other, the Wii will continue to decline, which means that it will be pointless by the time the next console generation is released. It was possible to get PS2s until very recently, and the same with last gen XBoxs, and the same will be true of PS3 and XBox360 when the next generation is released, but the Wii will probably be removed from the market when the 8th gen rolls around.

Not necessarily, though those people don't really care about video games and use them as an occasional pastime. I neither like casual gaming nor do i know any person like that, but gaming is much more than the occasional peggle or mario.

It might seem like that, its not a disadvantage, its just the way the console is. It was not made to compete with the consoles for hardcore gamers but made to cash in on casual gamers. What im saying it while it has its own merit, its nowhere near the best gaming console, and it seems to me that a lot of ignorant people call it the best console just because it sells much more games, like that analyst.

The part that bothers me about all this is that investors may look at console sales as 'potential customers' but I hope they realize that the majority of their TRUE potential customers do not buy games for the Wii, they buy games for PS3 and Xbox360 (we're talking console here, PC buzz off).

Again, that is not correct. The PS3 is in dead last in terms of attach rate, then Wii, then 360.

Not according to the latest stats on VGChartz:

XBOX360:8.51
PS3:6.56
Wii:6.42

Which is even more impressive considering the rise in PS3 sales and the fall in Wii sales.

I thought Wii sales were on the rise after the price-cut.

Ah well. I guess I was basing my argument on out-dated info. However, the two are pretty damned close, wouldn't you say?

Except that those reports of piracy killing pc gaming are exaggerated or fabricated propaganda by copywrong extortion rackets.

And for you information, the most pirated version of mw2 is the xbox version.

That's why I said that "I had a feeling".

Eh, actually, I'm just kinda flaming you at this point, sorry.

OP seems to have neglected to mention the fact Microsoft said they'd support the 360 through 2015. Also, it should probably read home console war or it'd be the DS by a country mile.

That and the Wii is a toy, not a console. Ok, revisions complete.

Ah the Wii, I want you to think about this. The Wii, has clocked up all those sales, and it has only released a handful of mature games (MadWorld,The Conduit,House of the Dead, Resi and NMH).

Where to go from here? How about that market?

Yep, Sony and Microsoft have had it.

Really, I don't care about the console wars. Back when I was a fanboy Nintendo winning was a big deal, now I just play the games I have and stay neutral online... at most..
I have both Wii and a 360. I don't have a PS3 because it got a lot of the same games as the 360 and the PC and it's more expensive than what I prefer.

The Wii got most of the games that the whole family can enjoy together, and the others share the adult titles, then there's the PC taking in a mix of both. Pick your favourite, or pick all, do whatever makes you happy, because no-one who's mature care what you like the best.

the wii i think is just bought so people that want to play old nintendo games don't have to buy too many consoles. really the only reason it did so well is because all the health nuts wanted their children to get off their lazy ass and do something, or an adult decided that they wanted more "family time". it wasn't anything new like all of nintendo's products after the n64, but people that don't have consoles thought it would be a gateway system. i think all the companies need to come together and make one console, for everyone, so the console wars will end and no more fanboys. if there are no fanboys, pollution levels might even go down from the stop of all that hot air.
