Let's talk E3!

Also, I really liked the Robot Chicken sketches.

The one with Peach stealing the last donut got a laugh out of me. XD

OT: Nintendo... Just... Wow. I am VERY happy with everything they've shown. I wanted to get a WiiU before but now I feel VERY certain that I want a WiiU before any other console this generation.

Also, I am absolutely HYPED to play as Midna in Hyrule Warriors. I cannot wait to see how she plays.

My favorite sketch was Lil Mac spilling his hot coffee and pouting about it. I couldn't stop laughing.

Also the Iwata and Reggie fight scene was great. It was killing me!

I think Nintendo have definitely pulled all the right moves with this E3. I think with all of the games they've got for the Wii U now, as well as the new games they've just announced, the Wii U will actually pick up tremendously in sales.

I gotta say that Nintendo and Microsoft really upped their game when it came to pacing this year. They were both just new game after new game with barely any filler. I love how Nintendo managed to announce more brand new games in 40 minutes than Sony could in 2 hours.

That's the power of a direct instead of doing a conference. :D

OT: Well I am, like others, incredibly impressed by Ninendo. I new IP is really what I wanted to see more than anything and it looks like a lot of fun!
And can I just say I love every single Super Smash Bros. Trailer? Even the Mii one was really cool and had a good sense of humor.

Is it fair to say that Nintendo just like... stomped this year? 'Cos they did.
Scalebound, Witcher 3 and Dragon Age all seem pretty good, and some of the Ubisoft showings were kind of impressive (but fuck uplay and Ubisoft in general) but Nintendo was just game after game after game. So many of them in such a short time, I went away for like 5 minutes and missed two or three of them.
Just looking back on the video archives is making me happy I got a 3DS.
dat bloodborne tho ;_;

also, it has been announced that the LONG troubled Valhalla Studios production Devil's Third is now a Wii U EXCLUSIVE. And it appropriately looks as insane as other Itagaki games

Nintendo rep says that the Zelda footage was in-engine:

http://kotaku.com/nintendo-that-amazing-zelda-footage-was-in-engine-1588740315?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Twitter&utm_source=Kotaku_Twitter&utm_medium=Socialflow

Doesn't surprise me. I mean, look how good X looked with their in game engine trailer. And that was like...a year or two ago?

They also aren't sneaks like Microsoft and Sony so if it turns out that this is backed by a processing computer I will be horribly shocked.

Microsoft almost convinced me to get their console this time around. I mean, Sunset Overdrive looks awesome and I do love Insomniac. For the most part it kind of bored me a little, and that's mainly because I don't care about Halo and Crackdown. But at least we got to see some car porn. :P

As of Sony, they had an okay presser. They were doing pretty good until they had to talk about their numbers again. I get they had to talk about it at some point, but I didn't think it was necessary to do it then. Maybe before the presser or something. A new Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, and Bloodborne got me super excited.

As for Nintendo, the only thing that remotely interested me was Bayonetta 2. I'm sure they have some handheld stuff that is coming out that they didn't mention or might pique my interest. They did a better job than last year though, so I will give them credit for that.

Assassin's Creed Unity looks like fun, so I'm happy about that.

Just so you know, generally all E3 games for when the console isn't out yet is just a PC with specs similar to how the actual console will be. It's always been that way, and games running off the dev kits before the console launch is very common. Nintendo has done it, as have Sony, Microsoft, and SEGA. Hell if you see their old dev kits they are giant. Once the console launches however, if it is running off a PC then it's very shady. Remember, last year the PS4 and the Xbox One hadn't launched yet, so them running off basically a PC is a given.
One thing I remember was in E3 1996 Nintendo ran Mario Kart 64 off a PC that had specs slightly better than the N64, some things are different because of the little extra power, but that's generally it.
Heck, dev kits have gotten smaller from their old 6th generation counterparts that's for sure:

Only thing that interests me is Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Looking forward to it.

Miyamoto is finally On and he's talking about his first Project: "Giant Robot". He's also going to be talking about "Project Guard" and a New Star Fox!

Oh yeah. I do remember that now that you mention it. I guess I should reiterate that I'm fine with PC processing if it's close to the power of the console in question. But if your doing it beyond the actual powers of the console itself to make your game look better than what it can actually achieve...you can just fuck off.

Usually after the first year all the consoles switch to running off actual systems, but there are times in which they still run off dev kits. Over time though I've seen the dev kits change to being much similar to the console itself. Then generally the ones that are sent to specific companies are usually more like the consoles as well. I know there's an image of a dark tealish GameCube sent to Activision floating around, especially since nowadays dev kits are going on the market for the older systems.
If the game is pulling a fast one like that though, it's usually found out really quickly what with the internet and all.

Also, found this Wii U dev kit...man I'm actually glad it changed to the one we know now. :P

Look at those almost blocky curves! :P
Now the modern Wii U dev kits look like the Wii U basic model, but they still have that little dongle on the top of the GamePad I've noticed.

Well, shit, Nintendo.

You REALLY did it this time. >: ( I can't afford a WiiU at the moment, and now I REALLY REALLY want one.

The Elder Triforce Hyrulerim? Sold.
Dynasty Zelda with more playable characters, including a super badass Zelda? Sold.
Bayonetta 1 and 2? With some Nintendo content? *grumble* Sold...
Yoshi's Epic Wool? SOLD.
Mechwarrior Xenoblade? ...Cautiously optimistic, hopefully they're not gonna go WAY over the top.
Squidwars shooter of OMGWTFISTHISINSANITY? Modsbannit Nintendo! SOLD!
Miis in Smash Broos WiiU? WITH CUSTOMIZABLE MOVESETS?!?! !@#$ING SOLD!

And seeing a few teasers for Smash Bros 3DS also has me hyped. Now all I need is to see Sonic on the 3DS version and I will flip out and be confined to a psych ward until I can get my hands on it.

Let's not forget that according to Destructoid Nintendo also confirmed a new Star Fox game.

Hasn't stopped some devs from trying though :/

Oh wow. So that's how dev kits look like in general? Wow oh wow. I'm ignorant so I thought they were like...small boxes with manuals or something stupid like that.

Wii U looks....yeah I like the new one.

Dragonbums:

That's always gonna be the case though in all honesty. It's why I generally try to kill my hype for things around E3...although it's hard to kill hype for Ratchet and Clank for me... But mainly I get a general hype from E3, and then kill it quickly and usually reserve judgement until I play the game myself.

That's how they used to look. Like I said, dev kits usually change to being smaller over time, and the new Wii U dev kits look similar to the Wii U Basic model, but still have some of the features of the dev kit that the original one. One of them being the little dongle thing on the top of the GamePad. Honestly I've yet to find a dev kit a small as the GameCube ones, and like the old Net Yaroze. That thing looks exactly like a PS1, but it's not just that, it's also the only model that is both a dev kit as well as being region free for the PS1...and they are expensive as hell just like GameCube dev kits, and just as rare. >.< (I'm a collector so to speak :P)

I'm currently watching the Nintendo Lighthouse, and the Hyrule Warriors game made me laugh hard. The Majora's Mask Moon makes an appearance... crushing an enemy dragon. I was laughing that I started hiccuping. Though the guy playing it was too busy showcasing the game that he lost the battle. Hah.

You know what? Nintendo didn't drop the bombs this year...THEY DROPPED THE FREAKING MOON!

What else is there to say? Well besides the Treehouse Direct is perhaps the best idea for E3 ever. Seriously, long 15+ minutes of full gameplay plus interviews with developers. Not to mention that the treehouse staff is more personable than most game journalists.

Watched the Nintendo conference. My thoughts on it:
I was really annoyed by the whole presentation in general. They really come across as a bunch of try-hards.
Xenoblade: never played the original games in this series, so I'm not really capable of making comments, but the dubbing was perfectly horrible.
Yoshi's Epic Wool: so now not only Nintendo is not only discouraging new IP, but they also want to do crossovers? Meh. I did not really like it, but I can see why some people could.
Dynasty Warriors: Zelda Edition: not really a fan of Dynasty Warriors, but it seems like it could be a fun game. However, this is not what Nintendo needs right now, with their complete lack of line-up.
Bayonetta: this looks really out of place in the Nintendo Lineup, but this may be one of the saving graces of the Wii-U for some.
Miis in Smash Brothers + that one Goddess character: Really? This is what we get instead of two real reveals? I'm not a fan of the Miis to begin with, but why the fuck do we get this instead of confirmation that Captain Falcon is in?
New Zelda: They showed basically nothing. So what? Open world? You mean like almost every zelda that was produced? How is that something new? Furthermore, was I the only one why thought they hinted at destructo-scenery?
Splatoon. Squid based paintball matches sound awesome, but I'm really not convinced it's going to be worth the full release price.
MarioMaker. Now we don't only have a penis-creation game for the XBone, but for the Wii-u as well!
Captain Toad game: Eh??? How is Toad suddenly an A-list character, and why does this game look so insultingly easy?
Fake Skylanders: now you can effectively cheat in SSB, I think? How is this in any way useful?

Overall, very little new IP, nothing I'd buy at full retail price. I'm really starting to doubt if they'll keep the Wii-u afloat.

The Pokemon side of me is saying this is a really subtle reference to the Dragon and Fairy type dynamic in Pokemon X and Y.

It's like the Zelda version of Moonblast taking that Dragon down 30 notches.

That's no moon...it's FAERIES! Who ever thought faeries could fuck shit up with such ease? Plus Reggie is saying they'll have more news tomorrow on other stuff. So far Nintendo's stuff just seems so much more FUN than everything else.

Dragonbums:

You know what that moon makes me want...Majoras Mask HD! Dammit Nintendo, Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker had their time, now where's my damn Majora's Mask HD already!?

kinda meh this year

ergh. That moon is waaaay to creepy for me. But same. I really want to see a Majora's mask remake....and DK64. But you told me about the setbacks they have with that.

Well the setbacks for DK are for Virtual Console release, not from remaking it if they were to ever do it. Only thing they'd technically not be able to use is the DK Rap, as Nintendo doesn't own the rights to it, Rare does. Everything else I'd assume they'd just make from scratch like they did for Wind Waker HD. Although a DK64 without the DK Rap isn't really DK64... :/

As for Majora's Mask, I'd even accept them reusing every asset from Ocarina of Time's remake on the 3DS for it. Would kinda make sense too, given how that game was made in only a year. As for the creepy moon, over time you get used to it I think, that's why when I saw the Hyrule Warriors one it didn't phase me. Might also be because I've been playing Majora's Mask nonstop since I can't play my copy of Twilight Princess. I lent it to a friend and he's been livestreaming it every Friday, and he'll be finishing it this Friday. Twas his first playthrough of it.

And now we have the Invitational! With Sakurai as the "surprise" quest leading into the tournament. And he looked completely floored by the reception he received.

Just finished watching it and I SO wanted Kirby to win! But the scarf guy had to stall until sudden death! That was so intense though, one of the best parts of E3 for me.

Not gonna like though I honestly think Zero Suit Samus was just...too fast with too powerful moves for my tastes. In a sense she seemed pretty broken. The only reason why Kirby lasted as long as he did was because he was pretty decent at dodging, but when he got hit it was really unforgiving. They need to slow her down. Or at the very least diminish the damage of her attacks.

After all, he was literally the only player in the tournament to get "boos" for everyone. And I'm not saying the man is a bad player in the slightest, but it seems that I wasn't the only one who thought Zero Suit was way too OP in that tournament.

And think about this for a second: with everything the dev team has said, VANILLA Samus is supposed to be even better. That's kinda terrifying.

Easily the best moment in E3.

if it's not the whip that's a bit crazy (but the running shield tactic seemed to work well, a lot of the time everybody just kept facing the wrong way when they were fighting due to the pressure), ZSS final smash is like snake's final smash but harder to actually escape because the shots linger

kirby getting a charging hammer like dedede doesn't seem to have really helped at all since a) it still has the massive cooldown and b) it's way smaller so that isn't going to cut it, but at least it hits like a truck

anyway, miis, palutena, pacman, g&w????

All 3 did pretty well this year I think, but IMO Nintendo really blew it out of the park, which was rather unexpected and kinda awesome! Sony did a presentation that would have been fine at any other year, but I feel like they got out-played by the other two this year just by the fact that everyone else was entirely about games, games, games.

Also, lets not talk about EA. I'm almost ashamed that I actually had high hopes for their presentation this year.

I just came across the most epic video from E3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3stGSBtJh4E

In this video Bayonetta and the villain dual it out while their gigantic demon/angel summons go at it from the background.
