Borderlands Movie Casts Creed II’s Florian Munteanu as Krieg

The Eli Roth-directed live-action Borderlands movie has cast Florian Munteanu, who played Viktor Drago in Creed II, as Krieg. Krieg is a mountainous psycho who first appeared as a playable DLC character in Borderlands 2. It’s unclear how significant Munteanu’s role will be in the Borderlands movie, though the report describes his character as “the musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector of Tiny Tina.” Meanwhile, Tiny Tina will be played by Ariana Greenblatt (Stuck in the Middle).

“Florian brings real humanity and multiple layers to a character who on the surface seems totally insane and brutally savage,” Roth said in a statement. “Krieg was by far the most difficult role to cast, and Florian brought him to life and grounded him in a way that I didn’t know was possible. He’s going to be a brilliant Krieg and will fit in perfectly with our incredible cast.”

Florian Munteanu with Krieg is only the latest face to join the Borderlands movie. Kevin Hart, who will play Roland, officially joined earlier this year, with others such as Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Cate Blanchett tapped to play Claptrap, Dr. Patricia Tannis, and Lilith, respectively.

Roth was announced as the Borderlands movie’s director last year, with Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin having penned the film’s script.
