Only seven months after it was released here in the West, World of Warcraft players are about to get their hands on Cataclysm.

World of Warcraft has never exactly had the easiest time in China (remember how Wrath of the Lich King was initially blocked and then modified it to be “acceptable”?). However, Chinese players will undoubtedly be relieved to hear that the game is coming to their country’s mainland on July 12.

Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard Entertainment, was obviously thrilled at the news:

We’ve always appreciated Chinese gamers’ passion and support for World of Warcraft, and we’re excited that they’ll soon be able to enjoy all of the great new content this expansion has to offer.”

With Wrath of the Lich King, it took over a year (nearly two, actually) for China to approve the expansion for release. This time, Cataclysm only took seven months. So, by my (totally made-up) math, it’ll only take three or four more expansions before they start getting released around the same time in China as the rest of the world.
