Tetris Movie Starts Shooting Next Year

Tetris – the movie, has secured an $80m budget.

Hollywood will make a movie out of anything these days – including children’s toys and games that don’t really translate to movies like Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots and Battleship. Old-school Russian puzzler Tetris is the latest such “They made a movie out of that?” venture, and today the folks behind it announced they have secured an $80 million budget and will start filming next year.

According to Deadline, the movie will shoot in China, where it will be a co-production between China and the U.S. that will star both Chinese and Western actors. Bruno Wu, a Chinese billionaire and media giant, and American producer Larry Kasanoff (Mortal Kombat) will be the main folks behind this one.

If you think this is already pretty crazy, you should know that Wu and Kasanoff are planning for the movie to be the first in a trilogy. We have no real idea on what the plot will be, but back in 2014 Kasanoff said he wanted to turn Tetris into an “epic sci-fi thriller”.

It looks like *snicker* all the pieces are falling into place for the Tetris movie.
