This item is hard to come across and you’ll only find it if you manage to collect two small keys, namely the Ice Key and the Shelter Key. Without either key, you cannot access the boss fight that stands between you and the Shadow Mantle in Deltarune. This item was first mentioned in chapter one but has finally been added to the third chapter, and is something that you can unlock and use for yourself.
How to Get the Shadow Mantle in Deltarune
To get the Shadow Mantle, be sure to acquire the Ice Key and the Shelter Key. Here’s a brief rundown on how to get these two items easily in Chapter three:
Ice Key
To get the Ice Key, make sure you achieve S-Rank in the first section of Mr Tenna’s Game Show. When you do so, you’ll get to enter the S-Rank door in the Green Room. Behind the doors, you’ll notice a huge TV but without a controller, which can be found in a hallway nearby. Bring back the controller, and interact with the TV to play your first minigame.
Here, your objective will be to collect a sword and then level up to become strong enough to destroy rocks and cacti. To do so, start destroying palm trees whenever you see them. This should give you enough XP to make it to level three when you can finally destroy the cacti blocking your path to the treasure box with the Ice Key.
Shelter Key
To get this key, you’ll need to get another S-Rank in Mr. Tenna’s Game Show in Deltarune. Head through the same S-Rank door in the Green Room. Approach the console and there’s a fresh minigame that you need to finish. Just like the first time, you’ll need to have a sword to get your hands on the Shelter Key. To do so, take two consecutive lefts from where you’ve spawned, and then go straight on the top. This should bring you to a cave where you’ll find a sword.
Pick this sword up and hack your way through everything you see around you. Eventually, you’ll see a raft that you need to ride, and at the end of this ride you’ll come to a temple, where you’ll find the White Cloak, which allows you to deal ice attacks on your enemies.
Keep exploring the rooms till you come to a locked door which you can open with the Ice Key you acquired in the previous round. Inside this door, you’ll find the Shelter Key.

With the Shelter Key finally in hand, exit the minigame, and head back to the Green Room. Here, you’ll be able to start the final S-Rank minigame section for this elusive armor piece. To start the minigame, make your way through the city and head down the manhole till you reach Toriel. He’ll take you to the Shelter, where you need to open the door with your Shelter Key.
Inside the Shelter is the secret boss, who you’ll need to defeat if you’re eager to get the Shadow Mantle. The boss hits hard, so be sure to keep your guard and attack only when you’re sure that you won’t get hit in return. It’s time consuming, yes, but the fight is absolutely worth the effort.
What Does the Shadow Mantle Armor Do in Deltarune?
The Shadow Mantle is a special armor that prevents the Roaring Knight from one-shotting you when you’re engaged in the secret boss fight for Chapter three. Thanks to its buffs, you’ll take less damage from Star and Dark attacks in Deltarune.
