"Morrowind Overhaul 3" Modernizes Morrowind

I remember Overhaul 2011 getting threatened by mod developers. Just reading the article ticks me off really as it just reminds me of how whiny, cliquish and whiny some developers can be.

That said, I am grabbing Overhaul v3... probably should do it before someone in that compilation threatens DMCA takedowns too.

I've never actually played Morrowind and with the steam sale and now this seems like a good time to finally get it.

A quick question though, does this mod pack have everything you really need mod wise? Are there any other mods that are must haves that are not included?

It pretty much has everything you need yes, that said, things like house mods or un lore friendly things or really anything that might not be necessary you might need to install if you want them. Also Tamriel Rebuilt is not included, so you will need to get that. Really though, if you don't really want extravagant armor mods or something this pretty much has everything. Except tamriel rebuilt as stated. Get it, it's awesome.

No mods are 'must haves', simply because people want different things in their games. If you have any trouble with something within Morrowind, odds are there is a mod that fixes/changes it. Check MorrowindNexus, and don't be afraid to experiment.

Morrowind is such a wonderful game. It is kinda hard to pinpoint exactly what draws me to it. It oozes character and immersion. I've installed the previous MSGO, and I had a blast. Time to delve into it yet again.

That Nerevar Rising song... I hate you Jeremy Soule. It is simply the best OST in any game, of all time.

I had been thinking of trying to get into Morrowind since I never played it(Started with Oblivion) and I am told by most who did play it that it's the best thing ever and that playing it is much more important then petty non vital things such as food or sleep.

The combat system sounds terrible though and I needed something to update the graphics so maybe i'll try this at some point, hopefully I can still catch that Steam deal.

it's...not very nice to work on something for a year or two, and then someone comes along and puts it into his plugin collection or something, and then it attracts a million fans and they're like "woah, that new shader/tree model/grass/whatever is really fancy! well done plugin collection guy!!" and you think "well, actually I made all that and a lot more, and this guy, despite doing nothing but scratching it together from different devs, gets all the praise.".
Of course, those people who try to get his ISP to block him/etc. are going a bit too far, but it's a known problem that plugin/addon/whatever collections are not very well received on the actual developing end. If you argue that the other guy is more successful/ is better at marketing/etc. and therefore DESERVES all that praise, then fuck you, you're defending an asshole that steals other's hard work. If you think that's fair and you need to be an asshole in this world to survive: "fuck you" once more, because people like you are the reason you need to be that way in the first place, 'self-fulfilling prophecy'-style.
(which doesn't stop people from actually behaving properly, mind you)

THEN AGAIN this is just me remembering what happened to others and some of the reactions they get (and not a real interpretation of what you specifically said), and even though I'm a programmer, things like that never really happened to me, mostly because I never programmed some fancy mod that could need a little more attention. My point here is that they're just not completely in the wrong to complain.

Holy crap !
I knew modders were doing some good work with Morrowind, but this....
'Scuse me Escapist, I have to dig out my old CD and re-live my childhood.

The guy working on 2011 was very careful about indicating that it was a compilation. I'd argue that he did do a fair amount of work with documentation and making sure it all fits together so that anyone would be able to take advantage of the hard work the mod developers put together.

Remember that these were mods that were freely distributed in the first place with the exception that no one really made an easy-to-follow method to actually implementing these things together.

Complaining? Not really an issue, it's the fact that the 2011 fiasco (initiated by the mod developers) has permanently damaged the community's reputation as being whiny, entitled, and really just a bunch of online pundits that threaten legal action when they have no legal basis to begin with.

Yes, I would want recognition for my work. That said, I'd love to see it pushed out to as many people as possible, especially with other mods that compliment what I've done. If I were working on a project I intended to sell, then that is worth a legal threat. If 2011 was being sold, then that would be worth at least a look at from a legal point of view.

TL;DR: The modders get the praise for making their mod, but the guy who put 2011 together should get the praise for making it all work together easily for end users.
