Knives Out, the 2019 whodunit from Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, has two sequels heading to Netflix, according to Variety. Netflix acquired the rights to Knives Out 2 and Knives Out 3 in a monumental $450 million deal believed to be with Media Rights Capital, the producer of the first film, with Johnson set to return as director and Daniel Craig returning to play the detective Benoit Blanc. Variety states it is unclear if the sequels will come to theaters.
Prior to any mention of Netflix, we learned that Knives Out 2 was officially in the works early last year, with a franchise potentially in the cards. Story details aren’t available, so it’s unclear if any members of the original ensemble cast will return besides Craig. With the movie business still trying to find its footing in a shifting industry, when these films will come to Netflix is anyone’s guess.
Before Knives Out, Johnson put himself in the spotlight (for better or worse) with The Last Jedi in 2017, but the director still has a lengthy Star Wars future ahead. Though we’ve gone quite some time without an update, a report from last month indicated that Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy is still on the way. Craig, meanwhile, will finish out his time as James Bond when No Time to Die premieres this October, barring any further delays.
