Does The Precinct Have Multiplayer?

The Precinct is a police sandbox single player game, and it's popularity has forced players to question if it has multiplayer features.

The Precinct is a brilliant police sandbox game with all the makings of a perfect co-op adventure. But it leaves everyone wondering if it has multiplayer support.

Inspired by GTA, this game features a top-down perspective, and you’ll be patrolling Averno City to combat all the criminals and evildoers. While you’ll take around 12 to 15 hours to beat the main storyline, there’s a lot for you to explore, and the experience is bound to improve if you’re looking to team up with friends and combat crime.

Is The Precinct a Multiplayer Game?

As clarified by the official FAQ page, the game does not offer multiplayer features, but Fallen Tree Games could include co-op features with future updates, depending on how much players engage with it over the coming days.

Sure, it’s a sandbox game, but there’s a lot of potential to incorporate a co-op mode with special emphasis on patrols. If you take Phasmophobia, for example, you can team up with up to three friends and embark on a ghost-hunting adventure, but you can also enjoy it solo. The same formula could also be applied to The Precinct to make patrols more dynamic.

Given that the game pushes you to play by the rules, the lack of multiplayer features is both a strength and a weakness. Within the single-player story, you already have a partner who follows you around, so a real player in a co-op setting can easily replace this. However, including multiplayer here would force the developers to create failsafes for network issues and deal with cheaters and griefers.

Sure, co-op games like It Takes Two and Spilt Fiction have made quite an impression on gamers from around the world, so there’s no reason why The Precinct would fail in a multiplayer setting. However, with almost every game focusing on multiplayer interactions, a single-player game is definitely a breath of fresh air!
