Relics are a new system in Elden Ring Nightreign that gives your characters permanent stat and passive bonuses.
While you do have a lot of relics at your disposal, you cannot use all of them for all the characters that you’ve unlocked so far. These items are character-specific, which pushes you to hunt down every single one that the game has to offer. Coupled with the vessels, it’s an intricate system that adds a minor level of buildcrafting to a gameplay loop that’s mostly RNG-dependent.
What Are Relics in Elden Ring Nightreign?
Relics are items that give your character a permanent stat bonus. We say this is a permanent bonus because:
- These relics don’t disappear after a successful expedition.
- When you come across one that’s the best in slot for your character, you won’t swap out of it at all.
Every relic has a specific color associated with it, which helps you identify the kind of bonuses and passives it’ll give you. For example, red color relics are associated with damage and HP, while the blue ones are associated with magic, but this is something we’ll talk about in a bit. Relics come in three different variants, which also affects the passives that they provide:
- Delicate – One passive bonus.
- Polished – Two passive bonuses.
- Grand – Three passive bonuses.
How to Get More Relics
You can get relics in three ways:
- You can buy them from Small Jar Bazaar in exchange for Murk. Initially, you’ll just get some of the basic relics from this vendor. However, as you complete expeditions, stronger ones will hit the shelves.
- The best way to get these items is through expeditions, but your rewards will solely depend on how much you’ve managed to complete. If you defeat the Nightlord, you’ll get six powerful relics, but if you die on the very first day, you’ll get a basic set.
- Whenever you complete a character’s remembrance quest in Elden Ring Nightreign, you’ll get a relic that’s tailored to them. These usually improve your character’s passive and abilities, so it’s something worth gunning for.
How to Use Relics
To use a relic, make your way to the blue table beside the massive central table at the Roundtable Hold and interact with it. This should bring up the menu from which you can equip them on your character. But this is where things get interesting because to equip a relic, you need a vessel. This item features three color-coded slots.
So, if you have a vessel with red slots, you cannot use yellow relics with it. While you cannot change the colors of the slots, you can always buy new ones from your friendly Small Jar Bazaar merchant in exchange for Murk. Just like the relics, as you explore different landmarks and complete more expeditions in Elden Ring Nightreign, you’ll unlock more vessels that you can buy.
Alternatively, whenever you complete the remembrance quest for your character, you’ll also get a free vessel with the character-specific relic in Elden Ring Nightreign. If you’re not happy with the relics you have, you can always sell them for Murk. You can equip multiple relics across multiple vessels and characters, which makes the system more interesting. These eight characters have different skill sets, but to share passives across different playstyles is an angle that leads to unique gameplay effects.
